Final Fantasy XIII-2 getting a custom PS3, DLC
Limited-edition version of Sony's console hits Japan December 15 alongside role-playing game sequel; Square Enix confirms postrelease add-ons.
When Final Fantasy XIII came out, Square Enix launched the game in Japan alongside a limited-edition version of the PlayStation 3 Slim featuring a pink image of protagonist Lightning on a white version of the hardware. It turns out Lightning will strike twice with Final Fantasy XIII-2, as the publisher today announced another specialty hardware bundle sporting the star of the game.
The Final Fantasy XIII-2 Lightning Edition ver. 2 PS3 will launch December 15 in Japan alongside the standard Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game. The console features a different pink image of Lightning, this time emblazoned on a black 320GB version of the hardware with the game's logo. It will be available in limited quantities at launch and will sell for ¥37,960 (about $500).
That wasn't the only Final Fantasy XIII-2 news from the publisher. Square Enix also confirmed that it is working on downloadable content for release after the game's launch. However, it did not offer details as to what form that content would take.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 is set for release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in North America by the end of January, with a European launch early in 2012.
this is the BEST PS3 my eyes have ever seen. i can't wait to get my hands on and play FFXIII-2 with it.
I liked FFXIII enough for what it was, but it did not feel at all like a Final Fantasy game. This one seems to be the real deal, however it does not look like a return to form for the series (i.e. following up on 6, 7, 8 & 9) but it's a step in the right direction, or a step back in right direction.
I'm going to have this gorgeous PS3 even though I already owned one. It's just so gorgeous that it made me want to look at the pictures everyday! I even put it on my PS3 & PSP as a wallpaper. Can't wait for the release date!
@Toddx77 It's two different companies working on the Call of Duty series, which is why a new one is out every year.
PC version please?
Noel bothers me. I think that's probably the worst character design I've seen. Screams of generic.
i find it so weird how even FF fans can't agree on which games were good or not. Personally I really liked XIII. I admit the system could have used some polishing and i'm looking forward to seeing what the sequel will offer but seriously, everyone should calm down and stop bagging on iterations of the series they didn't like. Frankly I thought VIII was lackluster after VII but I know a lot of people who loved it and I respect that
FFXIII was so-so, a decent game by today's standards (which today's standards suck) but an especially awful FF game. FFXIII-2 looks more to be some what of a redemption, square said they are adding towns, exploration etc, FFXIII was just WAY TOO LINEAR! As long as XIII-2 doesn't end up being the American idol clone X-2 was it should be alright. And for those who are hating on the people who don't like FFX....that game was crap period. There hasn't been a truly epic FF since 6 (3 for the SNES) and 7. I'm not sure what the love of 10 was but really don't hate the people who know it was garbage. And really whats with the: Your not a FF fan if you didn't like 10! Thats crap. I played the original FF when Square was going bankrupt and it was suppose to be there last game, me and a lot of other are as FF hardcore as you can get, we just don't appreciate square releasing watered down junk.
I liked Final Fantasy XIII as a game. But I hated it as a Final Fantasy.
@FoxeoGames you seriously think FFX was a bad game. Hate to burst your bubble but FFX was actually a VERY good FF, there are SEVERAL people that consider it one of the best. Don't know what your smoking but if you ACTUALLY like the FF series FFX was brilliant. I am still replaying it today and will be picking up the revamped one coming out for PS3 as well as several people I know. As for FFXIII-2 I'm going to give them a change to make up for the total un-FF like game that was FFXII and hopefully it will be a hell of a lot better than XIII because as much as I did like FFXII, in no way shape or form was that a Final Fantasy game. *crossing fingers*
@FoxeoGames Because sequels are made to improve not-so-good games. Not to make a bad sequel to a good game
I have no problem with the DLC, and I even think the XIII was a "good game" by any normal standard. It was a fairly decent JRPG. However, it is a HUGE, HUGE let-down for anyone who came off of FFVI, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, and several other great JRPGs. Why make sequels to some of the worst entries in the series? Next up will be a sequel to FFX, arguably the worst of them all.
@Albaficas You can say XIII-2 is linear. Have you played it? Now I'm interested...
more predetermined dlc... this is the future folks, and the future is now.
just bring us ff versus already, stop with that linear crapy game already and let the elite team of squaresoft finish ff versus.
ezjohny If sony are slowing the pc as you said then what can we tell for the 360? they slowing the entire video game industry atm with that crapy tech and dvd's
wat i want to do on PS4 is to be able to play with PC and XBOX players that would be cool but no iiguess
DLC on a Final Fantasy game Next: First Person gameplay
What we need is a change in the PS 3's outdated Hardware, Come on Sony i'm waiting for the next generation in gaming, change the consoles contract, I would like to see a PlayStation every 2 to 3 years not a 5 yr to 10 yr wait, ridiculous, on the way Mul ti-platform games are made your putting PC to the side because of it's technology!
mehhhhhhhhhh
@DeadrisingX1 Never heard of "make it all available on disc without extra charges to unlock it"? Not to mention that we are all still waiting for FF vs XIII. SE should stop wasting time on crap and deliver. FF XIII-2 is ok, but DLC for it isn't. For any of the 2 reasons mentioned above.
SNES style FF.... your needed more than ever now...
@bad_fur_day really you have played the game?
I don't know about you all but I hated 13 so this doesn't interest me but I would like to hear more news on 13 versus now thats a game that might actually redeem my faith in square enix but till then I'll pass...
Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse... FFXIII-2!
i want to know what the hell the dlc has
intriguing...
FFXIII fell short by a stretch, S-E are making a fair leap of faith in the obvious belief that they have resolved the problems of the Original to be announcing DLC for FFXIII-2 already imo.
Did enough people even like the first XIII to merit a sequel? Sure it sold like crazy but I guess now we will see how many people liked it enough to buy a sequel. I know I won't.
OK seriously working on a DLC NOW!? you could have at least kept that for yourselves until the game was actually released....its like saying we are working on cutting out a portion of the game so we can milk you for some extra $$$.
Can I have it~
if its not free then i don't care
DLC for a FINAL FANTASY game ????
The return of Hope
yeah, but is it gold? no ; )
Now this is a must have! This is a lot better than the white FFXIII PS3. I want to look at it everytime i visit this page.
This is sweet. I really like it. But I'd have a hard time trading in my PS3 because it is the original one.
@Rottenwood Funny, seems to be a bottomless appetite for Call of Duty here in the states? Forgot to mention that did we now? It goes both ways....
Why can't SCEA release these awesome looking PS3s here in north america?
@slainta Ever heard of the word optional??
awesome news
Just what I want, another romp through the world of straight narrow one way paths while trying to figure out what the hell those annoying and uninteresting people around me are talking about. The game is lame and so is that.
@Rottenwood, Well not to be funny, but to honest I'm sure the Japanese probably think the same think about Western gamers and their 'bottomless appetite' w/ things like COD. *shrugs* Does kinda suck though Sony & SE America never thinks to hook us up in the West w/ some of those custom PS3, as well. That Tales of Xillia Limited Ed. one was pretty gorgeous, too. Seriously....would it kill you every now and then to consider hooking us up w/ special ed. PS3s, Sony?
@pakhair DLC content is not always bad for RPGs or anything. I mean its not always content they hold back the PS3 or Xbox360 disc can only hold so much data. Maybe its just content that they couldn't fit in either milking or not I'm buying it. :)
@Ex-DarkBlade They might not care, but i'm not Square, I'm a Gamespot user, I cared enough to quote your comment and personally ask you, and you alone... What rock are you living under? DLC content (costume packs aside) has rarely ever been as low as $3, you might find an avatar/display pack for that low, but DLC tends to come in the three extremes, Free, $10, 15, course you could always look at the exception of $5 for fighting game characters, or item packs. I'm just curious when this whole trend passed you by?...
Well Slainta DON'T GET THE DLC THEN!!!
Wow! Looks soo cool... and interesting! BTW, Lightning looks WAY HOTTER in this outfit! :)
I DON'T WANT DLC ON FINAL FANTASY GAMES!!! Damn!
Whoah the ps3 looks awesome! Wish I have one
Nice! That's the only thing I wish my PS3 could do, have interchangeable covers.. Kind of hard though when the console is a well put together as it is :P This limited edition one does look beautiful though :)
