Well folks, there isn't much more to it than that. This CD is a remix of six Ys IV songs and six Xanadu songs.

Let me tell you the negatives first so we can get that out of the way. First of all, some of the songs and instruments sound plain *goofy*. One sample is even out of tune. Most of the songs are really repetitive and don't sound as good as the TG-16 versions (at least with Ys IV, I don't know about Xanadu). Lastly, it has barely any dramatic power, unlike Xenogears or Ys III's TG-16 redbook.

Now for the good part: the songs grow on you. I have only had this for about a month or two and I can hum along with every song. I swear, the songs will stick like barnicles to you. The songs are pretty uplifting, too. Feelin' blue? Pop in this CD. Almost every song has a nice wailin' guitar solo in the middle. Also, the first track, "The Dawn of Ys", is nicely composed and is very memorable. I like Track 5 (from Xanadu) a lot too. It's also nice how some of the tracks "melt" into another, or are one long song broken up in two tracks.

So, in the end, I say "thumbs up"! It's a fun CD and will have you dancin' around the house for a while. Its faults can be overlooked, and it's a good addition to a serious game music collection.

Notes

  • Tracks 1, 3, 7, 8, 11 and 12 are from Ys IV. Tracks 2,4,5,6,9 and 10 are from Xanadu.
