10 Worst Tenants in Books, TV, and Film
A new season of World's Worst Tenants premieres Tuesday, March 12th on Spike. The men and women featured on the program will join a list of characters from television, film, and literature that you definitely don't want to end up renting to.
The Cast of "Rent"
Look, we're sympathetic to the plight of young bohemians. Starving for your art and all that. But do they need to constantly be breaking out into song? It'd be maddening, and imagine the complaints from neighbors.
Humbert Humbert from Lolita
Don't get romantically involved with your tenants. Ever. Gross.
Michael Keaton in "Pacific Heights"
Melanie Griffith and Matthew Modine find their dream home, and to supplement their income they decide to rent out the first floor. Enter the perpetually intense Michael Keaton. Initially he seems fine, but problems arise when he refuses to pay rent. Modine's all like "look, guy, you gotta pay rent" but Michael Keaton is NOT having it. He refuses to leave and drives away perspective renters with shenanigans and antics that would be comedy if they weren't being done by Evil Michael Keaton.
Kramer From "Seinfeld"
Of course you love him as a whacky neighbor, but can you imagine renting to someone as manic and high-maintenance as Kosmo Kramer? It'd be a nightmare.
The Aliens From "Third Rock From the Sun"
Their landlord didn't seem to mind, but I sure would. The fear of renting out to aliens from another planet who may or may not be setting the stage for an eventual invasion is one of the many things that has kept me from getting into the business. That and money.
Ralph and Alice Kramden From "The Honeymooners"
On their good days, they could be endearing blue collar folks. But all the shouting matches! All that domestic strife would lead to quite a few headaches, both literally and figuratively.
Everybody in "Being John Malkovich"
It's one thing to rent space in John Malkovich's head, but it's another thing entirely to overstay your welcome and take over the place. Really they're more squatters than tenants, which makes the whole thing even worse.
Patrick Bateman in "American Psycho"
Trust us, you don't want to know what he's been up to.
Pee Wee Herman
You know that someone like Pee Wee doesn't and never will own. The bad part, though, is that he clearly has done his own (unapproved) work on the place, in addition to allowing anything and everything that can talk to live in the place rent-free.
The Incredible Hulk
There's no way the security deposit would cover Bruce Banner turning into the Hulk. Also, you run the risk of him skipping town forever like he always did in the television show. Better do a background check on this one.
