Guidelines for Submission to The Linux Foundation's 100 Linux Tutorials Video Campaign
Join us in building a collective knowledge base for Linux! The Linux Foundation is inviting you to share your knowledge of Linux with people who are just getting started. Help us remove barriers to learning Linux and transfer expertise around the globe.
Today, we're starting a worldwide campaign to collect 100 Linux video tutorials on the Linux.com video forum where anyone can access and learn with the click of a mouse. But we can't do it alone. Please share your Linux video tutorials here and contribute to the the collective knowledge of the world's largest collaborative development project. We know that together we can achieve this goal and look forward to celebrating with the community when we do!
Here's what to do.
Embed a video from YouTube or Vimeo or upload it directly to the website. We’ll share and promote the best videos with the Linux community by featuring them on our website, our YouTube channel and/or our social media channels. This is a great way to both gain exposure for yourself as well as to contribute to the community.
What are we looking for?
- Short, high-quality videos that teach viewers how to do something cool/ unique/ fun/ complicated/ useful/ pick-an-adjective with Linux.
- Short = less than 15 minutes long.
- High quality = clear, steady picture and audio.
- Upload any aspect ratio but the site will format all videos to display in 16:9.
- Topics can be simple and aimed at beginning desktop users or newbie programmers (ie, how to download your favorite Linux application or use the command line) or complex and technical, aimed at professional Linux developers and system administrators (data access methods with GlusterFS).
- All instructional formats are welcome, including video casts, screencasts, presentations, workshops and the like.
Still not sure what kinds of videos we’re looking for? Here are a few examples:
We will remove videos that:
- Were created more than a year ago.
- Contain copyrighted material.
- Contain profanity or other offensive content.
- Explicitly sell a product.
- Don’t teach us anything about Linux or Linux-based programs and products.
How to submit your video:
- Visit http://videos.linux.com/
- Create a user registration or login with an existing Linux.com account.
- Click on the “Submit a Video” button.
- Upload the video directly to our site or paste in the embed code from YouTube or Vimeo.
- In the Title field, please label the video “100 Linux Tutorials: How to [Fill in the blank]”
- In the description, please enter a few sentences explaining what the video teaches viewers about Linux.
- Under categories choose “100 Linux Tutorials Campaign”
- Be sure to upload a thumbnail image file from the video.

Yes. You can upload the video directly to our site or paste in the embed code from other video sharing sites.
Can I submit a video created by someone else?

Can I submit more than one video?
Yes, you can submit as many videos as you like as long as they meet the guidelines.
Can companies submit videos?
Yes, companies create some of the best Linux tutorials. But please be sure the videos are educational and not overly promotional.
