FAQ

How do I register to attend?
Please click on the register button on the event website to register yourself.

What is the registration fee?
The fee to attend the conference on September 21-23, 2009 is $199 for
students at any time, and $299-$499 for regular attendees depending on
when you register. Please check the register pay for current fees. We
can encourage you to register early for the lowest pricing.

How do I pay for the event?
We accept payments through PayPal. You are not required to have an account to process your payment through either of these. They both accept the following majore credit cards as well: MasterCard, Visa, and American Express.

Is there a registration deadline?
There is not a registration deadline, but the event is limited to a maximum number of people, so we encourage you to register early to secure your space.

What is your cancellation policy?
Reimbursements will only be made for cancellations received by September 1, 2009. You must contact us via email at events (at) linuxfoundation dot org to cancel. Any cancellations received after that date will not be reimbursed. You can substitute another attendees with prior approval.

Where is the event located?
The event is being held at the Portland Marriott Waterfront Hotel in Portland, OR.

Where should I stay?
We have secured a room block at the Portland Marriott Waterfront with a room rate of $143/night. Please click on the Hotel and Travel tab for reservation information.

Will the event include meals?
Breakfast and Coffee Breaks are included on all conference and training days. Lunch is on your own. There are a number of restaurants located within two blocks of the hotel, as well as one on site. Please visit the registration desk for a map and list of restaurants. We will also be holding an evening reception on Wednesday, September 23rd with the Linux Plumbers Conference attendees. Please check back soon for more information.

I am interested in volunteering at LinuxCon. Who do I contact for more information?
We are very interested in having community members volunteer at LinuxCon. In exchange for volunteering your time during 30-50% of the event, you will be granted access to attend the event during non-volunteer hours. Contact Angela Brown at events (at) linuxfoundation dot org for more information.

May I bring guests?
Many participants will be traveling from afar and may want to travel with companions not attending the event. Please note that since this event is for registered conference attendees only, guests, family and children are not allowed at any conference sessions or any special events.

When do you recommend I arrive and depart?
When booking your flights, you should plan to arrive on Sunday evening in order to not miss any conference sessions. Conference sessions will end at 5:30pm each day.

Where do I book my hotel accommodations?
Please go to the Travel & Hotel tab at the top of the event website to book your hotel room.

What can I expect in terms of the weather in Portland and how should I plan for attire?
September is a great time to visit Portland with the area sunny and dry with beautiful blue skies and great views of the snow-capped mountains. Check out: www.weather.com and select 10-Day Forecast for the conference dates. The attire for the conference is business casual. Plan to dress in layers, to ensure you are warm or cool enough for the weather/meeting rooms.

We are planning an evening reception on Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Check back for more information.
