Linux Professional Institute (LPI): Linux Skills Certification

During LinuxCon be sure to take advantage of advancing your Linux and Open Source credentials by taking discounted LPI exams. The Linux Professional Institute (LPI) is widely recognized as the world's leading Linux certification. LPI, as a vendor-neutral non-profit organization, develops its world class exams through a global network of IT professionals, enterprise customers, and academic organizations.

All three levels of LPI certification (LPIC-1, LPIC-2 and LPIC-3) will be offered at LinuxCon on Monday September 21st at 10 a.m.,1 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. and exams must be completed within 1.5 hours. Certification testing will be offered at the discounted rate of $99--—a savings of over $60 per exam. Pricing for the LPIC-3 certification exam(LPI-301) is $199--again a savings of over $60 from regular pricing.

To participate in the exam labs you must obtain an LPI ID at https://www.lpi.org/caf/Xamman/register. To assure that you have a seat, candidates should email LPI at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with the following information by September 14, 2009:

(1) LPI ID
(2) Preferred exam time(s)
(3) Exams that the candidate wishes to take (LPI-101, 102, 201, etc.)

On the day of the exam, candidates may make payment for their exams onsite 15 minutes prior to the exam lab. Cash, a check payable to the "Linux Professional Institute" or credit card are all acceptable forms of payment. Each exam takes approximately 90 minutes to complete.

In addition, along with their exam payment, candidates should bring their LPI ID and a government issued photo identification to the exam lab.

The 2nd International Conference on LDAP (LDAPCon 2009)

Sunday, September 20th & Monday, September 21st
Registration is US$625 and includes registration to LinuxCon.

LDAPCon 2009 is a technical forum for IT professionals interested in LDAP and related topics like directory servers, directory management applications, directory integration, identity and access management, and meta directories. It focuses on implementation and integration of LDAP servers and LDAP-enabled client applications. The event will bring together vendors, developers, active and prospective LDAP practitioners to share their experiences about deployment strategies, service operations, interoperability, discuss LDAP usage in new projects and learn about upcoming trends and developments. The Conference Committee asks you to submit papers by July 1st.

SELinux Developer Summit

Sunday, September 20th
Must be registered for LinuxCon to attend.

The SELinux Developer Summit will provide a forum for focused technical discussions and problem-solving sessions relating to the SELinux project. Topics will cover current developments, emerging technologies, and future plans for the project. The intended audience includes core SELinux developers, security researchers, system administrators, distribution developers, and power users. The format will consist of brief presentations, moderated discussion panels and lightning talks, all aimed at advancing the state of the project. There is no cost for the SELinux Developer Summit but attendees are required to register for LinuxCon.

SUSE Workshop

2nd Annual Linux Plumbers Conference

Wednesday, September 23rd – Friday, September 25th
Registration is US$275 and is a separate registration from LinuxCon.

The Linux Plumbers Conference (LPC) is a developer conference for the open source community. LPC brings together the top developers working on the "plumbing" of Linux - kernel subsystems, core libraries, windowing system, etc. - and gives them three days to work together on core design problems. The conference is divided into several microconferences focusing on different "plumbing" topics, as well as a general track for topics that don't fit into the microconferences.

Linux Professional Institute Technical Advisory Committee (TAC)

Everyone Welcome!

LPI's exams are created through a transparent community process involving consultations with industry, training organizations and IT professionals from around the world.  Part of this process includes open meetings at major IT events in various regions.  LPI is pleased to host such an event at LinuxCon and invites all interested IT professionals and interested industry representatives to attend and provide feed back on LPI's certification program.

This event will be facilitated by Dr. James Stanger, Chairperson of LPI's Strategic Advisory Committee and will include a brief overview of LPI's exam development process by G.Matthew Rice, LPI's Director of Product Development.

FOSS DevCamp (Cancelled)

Saturday, September 19th & Sunday, September 20th

The FOSS DevCamp conference is a gathering for developers from all free & open source projects. Its main focus is to foster cross collaboration between projects- to allow developers from different but like minded projects to share ideas, fix similar bugs and generally make free & open source software better in a neutral location. It's a great opportunity for distros to work together with upstream projects in a face-to-face setting, without any barriers to progress.

Who should attend FOSS DevCamp? Everyone! This event offers a unique opportunity for developers from all free & open source software groups as well as users of that software to interact in a face-to-face setting to improve the software and to strengthen the community. Developers will have the ability to work with developers from different projects to exchange ideas, collaborate, and share feature ideas in a neutral location. Users will be able to present their issues and feature requests to the developers, truly becoming a part of the development process. There is no cost for FOSS DevCamp but attendees are required to register for LinuxCon.
