Linux Foundation Events FAQ

Are Linux Foundation events open for anyone to attend?
That depends on the event. We do have a few small, invitation-only events that are for collaboration with members of a certain community (i.e. Linux Kernel Summit).  But we also make sure to have events that you can attend in every major continent of the world, including LinuxCon, LinuxCon Japan, LinuxCon Europe, LinuxCon Brazil.

How can I get my company to send me to a Linux Foundation event?
You can tell them that the education and tutorials available in our events will advance your knowledge without costing them much money. This is the best and most cost effective way to learn about Linux and other infrastructure and development initiatives in the enterprise and mobile computing.

I'm not a developer. Will I get something out of a Linux Foundation event?
Yes! We make sure that all of our conference have business and legal content for non-developers, including plenty of systems administration and business content.  The networking opportunities alone, both at the conference and at our evening events, are well worth the cost and time to attend.

Are there any formal Linux training opportunities at Linux Foundation events?
Yes! We offer a variety of formal training classes at our events which can save you and your employer time and money. Please check each individual event you are interested in or consult our Linux Training site for a full schedule of offerings

Are there any discounts for Linux Foundation Individual Members?
Indeed.  Linux Foundation members receive a 20% discount to all of our LinuxCon events.  Your membership fee pays for itself!  Learn more about how you can help support Linux by becoming a Linux Foundation Individual Member.

What is your cancellation policy?
Our cancellation policies do vary event to event. In general if you must cancel for any reason please notify us via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Refunds will only be issued for cancellations received up to 10 days prior to the event, and may take up to 14 days to process.  Please note that all refunds are subject to a 3% processing fee for any paid event.

May I substitute someone else, if I am unable to attend? If you are unable to attend, you can substitute another attendee in lieu of cancellation for any paid event.  To substitute an attendee, you may return to registration form, login in as 'Already Registered' and edit the registration with the new attendee's information.  Utilizing this feature will also allow you to re-issue yourself a receipt and/or confirmation should you need it.  For invitation-only events, substitutions are only granted on a case-by-case basis. Please email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you would like to make a substitution for an invitation-only event.

How can I retrieve a copy of my receipt for a Linux Foundation event?
A link will be on your confirmation email; in the email click on the section that reads "View Your Invoice". Next, under "Actions" you can select either: "Print Receipt" or "Email Receipt".
If you do not have your confirmation email any longer, you can also access your registration details by logging in at the specific registration link to the event you paid with your email and password used to register: (this link takes you to all our events, click the event registration tab)
http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events
Once you login and access your registration details, simply click on "Print Receipt" located under "Documents".

Will I receive a new phone or computer if I attend your event?
We wish! While we have had giveaways at our events for attendees, it's not common.

Can I volunteer at a Linux Foundation event to get in free?
Occasionally we do have volunteer opportunities for certain events. Send an email to events (at) linuxfoundation dot org if you are interested in volunteering at a specific event. You can also check individual event websites where volunteer opportunities are posted if available.

Does Linux Foundation have a anti-harassment/anti-descrimination policy for their events?
Yes, it's important for us that people feel welcome. You can read our simple yet friendly policy.

Why does Linux Foundation do so many events around the world?
Our mission is to advance and promote the Linux platform. We feel events do that by allowing people to collaborate in a friendly and professional setting. We also think it's important to provide a platform for members, companies and individuals to promote their work on Linux and learn more about Linux.

How can I speak at a Linux Foundation event?
Most of our events include a call for papers and we encourage submissions from any interested parties in the Linux community. Each event's CFP has a different deadline, so please view individual event websites for information. The Linux Foundation End User Summit and the Linux Kernel Summit are the only events that do not include CFPs.

How can I sponsor a Linux Foundation event?
We welcome any company interesting in supporting the Linux ecosystem and/or increasing their brand awareness within the community to sponsor a Linux Foundation event. Please view our sponsorship opportunities

Do you have exhibiting opportunities at Linux Foundation events?
The LinuxCon conferences each include a Technology Showcase where companies can showcase a product or technology.  As it is our goal to keep each Technology Showcase at a small, exclusive size, opportunities are available to sponsors only. If additional space is available for Exhibit-Only opportunities, this information will be posted on that events website.
