Programming Summer Camp For Japanese Students

Date: Friday, June 3rd
Time: 10:00am
Location: Room 502

In Japan, there is an annual Security and Programming Camp. The event is designed to bring together experienced developers and young students who are interested in software engineering and development. The camp consists of several courses, including: security, programming languages, hand-made operating systems, and a course on Linux kernel development. This presentation will focus on providing an in-depth overview of the 2010 Linux kernel development course, including information on the skilled Linux kernel hackers and subsystem maintainers who provided the instruction and insight on the skills and networking opportunities that emerged for the students that were involved.

This presentation will show you an example of how the kernel hackers can encourage and mentor newbies to join the kernel development process as the next generation hackers. Such trial report may become a good hint for developers who are interested in grooming successors in open source projects.
