Statistical Analysis of Linux Kernel Development

The Linux kernel is developed at a really high speed by the great effort of the community. Kernel developers are working with well defined process using good tools. This talk will present number of statistical data and its analysis of Linux Kernel development among early stage of 2.6 to latest release. The data which will be presented are; How many weeks/days each releases took, How many developers participated, How many configuration options are added, How much source code lines are increased and so on. In this presentation, development status, growing speed and issues will be shown and discussed. This talk is intended to provide actual status of Linux Kernel development by the statistical viewpoint for managers and engineers who are not familiar with the Linux community and its nature. However, developers (both newbies and active Kernel developers) may also be interested because the data represents their own development results.

Tsugikazu Shibata, NEC

Tsugikazu Shibata has been working on coordinating the relationship between industry and community as a senior manager of OSS Promotion Center of NEC.
