Rescuing SuperH to Linux Commonplace

Hisao Munakata, Renesas Solutions Corp.

SuperH (=SH) is typical Japanese RISC processor designed for embedded system and upstream Linux kernel include SH architecture support from 2.5.x. Actually Linux adoption on SH is getting popular recently; however the use of SH-Linux was not straightforward like generic PC-Linux and its development used to be totally isolated from community activity like other embedded CPUs. Renesas realized this is huge loss of opensource synergetic power and start following ideal way of kernel development from 2007. Now I want to say SH is no longer exotic architecture in Linux. This session introduce how we modified existing off-the-tree drivers so that they can be integrated with upstream code and how we added new features into under-development kernel. Also I want to inform you how to utilize upstream fresh asset upon SH. This talk might be beneficial for administrative person who manages opensource activity as well as actual developers.
