Development of OSS Model Curriculum and Start of Edu Wiki Project

Hiroshi Miura, NTT DATA Corporation

IPA developed the OSS curriculum for university, technical school, and company training, and now promotes the development of course materials such as textbook. It includes OSS/Linux specific course such as Linux operations, kernel internals, Legal/License and OSS basics. The North-East Asia OSS promotion forum(NEAOSS) start developing the China-Japan-Korea common OSS curriculum on it. As a leader of IPA working group and Japan chair of NEAOSS group, I figure out a structure of these OSS curricula and relations with another curriculum standard such as ACM's common curriculum 2005. Also I report a status of OSS/Linux education in Japan based on the recent research result in IPA. Curriculum and Materials are released under Creative Commons license, so teachers can use these materials for their students easily. Teachers, manager of training institute, and researcher of OSS/Linux education can know basic outline of curriculum and how to apply these materials onto their school and/or institute.
