Pluggable Real-Time Performance Monitoring

Dag Wieers

Dstat is a Linux command-line, line-based tool that gives you access to any performance counter that is available from applications, the system or the kernel.  It was designed to be flexible and to assist with correlating various counters in the same interval.  The presentation will go into how Dstat can be used with practical examples where it shines (compared to similar tools).  We will also dig into writing sample plugins and future development.  Since dstat is a utility much like vmstat or iostat, with a lot more functionality, this presentation is useful to every Linux user (beginner or advanced) but mostly attends to system administrators or application owners.  Dstat ships with every renowned distribution, so you have no excuse.
