Deploying OpenStack on Bare Metal

As part of regular automated testing of OpenStack, we need to automate the deployment on top of several real servers. We have accomplished this with a combination of Cobbler from Ubuntu Orchestra and Puppet. Additionally we have optimizations for faster redeployment using lvm and kexec. We'll talk about how to configure a Cobbler-based OpenStack install, and then look at some of the things we're investigating for future improvements.

Monty Taylor, Rackspace

Monty Taylor is a systems architect for Rackspace working on the OpenStack project. He is responsible for all of the OpenStack Core Infrastructure, including the developer tooling, continuous integration and automation systems. Monty is also a core developer on the Drizzle project, and was a Senior Consultant for MySQL, Inc before they got gobbled up. He's an expert in distributed systems and in his spare time is working on importing cachaça into the US.
