At LinuxCon, we promise to not only deliver cutting edge content and top technical talent, but we’re also making it our mission that you have a great time while you are there. To that end, keep an eye on this ever expanding list of social events and activities designed to add to your LinuxCon experience. Monday, September 21st - 6pm - 9pm - 'Bowling for Penguins' Fundraiser (Grand Central Bowling)Start getting your teams together for a fun night at Grand Central Bowling, Portland’s ultimate bowling lounge! Each team will have six players – you can register as a team, or as an individual and be placed on a team onsite. Prizes will be awarded in a number of categories including: Highest Score, Lowest Score, Most Gutter Balls, Best Team Spirit and more! Winning team members will receive great penguin prizes from Defenders of Wildlife! Bowling only takes one hour, so you will have plenty of additional time to mingle with other attendees as well.Not Bowling? That’s okay! This event is open to all LinuxCon attendees to attend. From the mezzanine level, you can watch the action on the bowling lanes below, and cheer on your favorite team. The mezzanine level also includes a full bar, four billiards tables, and four comfortable fireside lounge areas to hang out in. Complimentary appetizers will be provided for all attendees. And, local attendees can fell free to bring their families - all ages are welcome. The cost per bowler is $30, which includes bowling, shoe rental, appetizers and 1 drink ticket. Those not bowling may attend at no cost and can bring family members at a cost of $10 per person. Light appetizers will be provided and the kitchen and bar will be open so that folks can order drinks and food as well. We will also be holding a raffle open to bowlers and non-bowlers with great raffle prizes provided by Think Geek and Pearson/Addison Wesley/Prentice Hall. Tickets are only $5 each. Wednesday, September 23rd - Joint Reception with Linux Plumbers Conference Attendees (McCormick & Schmick’s Harborside)
Take in the view, enjoy great food and drinks, and mingle with attendees of both LinuxCon and Linux Plumbers Conference at this evening event. Sponsored by September 21st - 23rd - Attendee Wellness Room
Chair massages, yoga classes and more. We want you to get some R&R; in while you are with us at LinuxCon. Prior to the event, we will post a schedule of events for this room on our online LinuxCon attendee community page.
September 21st - 23rd - 24/7 Hacker Lounge
A place for developers and hackers to meet 24 hours a day to hack away! Located onsite at the Marriott and open 24 hours a day throughout the conference. Drinks will be provided in the room throughout the day.
September 21st - 23rd - Only in Portland (Daily Attendee Giveaways)
Each day, either at the beginning or end of the conference schedule, we
have a special 'Only in Portland' surprise to share with our attendees.
Don't worry - you'll be given plenty of notice on site to make sure
you are in the right place at the right time, but we can't tell you
more than that - it's a surprise! But, trust us, you'll leave LinuxCon
having 'tasted' some of the best Portland has to offer!
September 21st - 22nd - Powell's Books at LinuxCon
Powell's Technical Books has gained a reputation worldwide as having
one of the best selections of technical books in the world, and now,
you don't even have to travel to the store as Powell's Books in coming
to LinuxCon! The Powell's 'Bookstore' will be located in Salon E
(Technology Showcase room) on Monday and Tuesday from 9:00am to
4:30pm. They will be offering attendees a 20% discount on their books
onsite, plus each attendee will receive a $5 coupon in their
conference bag, which is good for any purchase of $25 or more. Holy
discounts! This is the time to grab those new books you've been
talking about!
