Open Cloud Summit

Sunday, August 8th

The Open Cloud Summit is where industry veterans, hackers, privacy advocates, and cloud enthusiasts will come together to discuss the vision for open cloud and the technology that makes it feasible. As cloud computing adoption continues to accelerate, it becomes paramount to discuss the relationship between cloud computing and open source software, the open data movement, open APIs, data and service portability, and online privacy and data ownership. The Open Cloud Summit will feature a wide array of speakers and points of view on notable topics, including:

• Open Source in the cloud: open source cloud platforms, open source apps in the cloud, and open source licensing trends
• Open Data: data ownership, the (in)compatibility of privacy and open data, and when open data isn't really open
• Open APIs: The mandate for service portability and interoperability, is an Open API enough? and the threat of trademark and patent law

With this summit, we hope to highlight efforts to make cloud computing an open ecosystem that establishes the freedom to innovate within a framework that defines the rules, expectations and rights of participants in the cloud computing community.

Linux Storage & Filesystem Summit

Sunday, August 8th & Monday, August 9th

The Linux Storage & Filesystems Summit is a small by-invitation summit which focuses on collaboration and implementation.  It brings together developers and researchers who work with the Linux storage and file system stacks.  Discussion focuses on current problems and upcoming technology which will arrive in one to two years.  The summit takes place over two days and is made up of separate storage and file system tracks, combined plenary sessions, and hands-on development sessions.

Tracing Mini-Summit

Monday, August 9th

A one day mini-summit on low overhead computer systems tracing will be held in Boston, co-located with LinuxCon, on Monday August 9, 2010. It is organized by Dominique Toupin, Ericsson, Robert Charpentier, DRDC, Mario Couture, DRDC, and Michel Dagenais, Ecole Polytechnique de Montréal. The objective of the mini-summit is to present the latest developments in low overhead kernel and user-space tracing, with emphasis on Linux and Multi-Core systems.

A major push is underway to extend tracing tools and make them available from within popular integrated development environments such as Eclipse. This mini-summit will be a great forum to better understand and discuss the technical advantages of the different proposed techniques, algorithms, features and implementations. It features presentations from key players in kernel and user-space tracing, including Steven Rostedt (ftrace), Masami Hiramatsu (djprobes/kprobes), Mathieu Desnoyers (LTTng, tracepoints, UST), Stan Shebs (GDB tracepoints) and Marc Khouzam (Eclipse Tracing and Monitoring Framework and Debugger Service Framework). Education Mini-Summit

Monday, August 9th

The aim of this mini summit is to present the current developments in education with regard to open source, both in terms of classroom usage of open source technologies and classroom participation in the creation of aforementioned open source technologies. Sessions include hands-on technical demonstrations, deployment stories from users of open source in the field, classroom tips from teachers who have brought their students into open source communities, and more. The summit itself will serve as a platform for continued discussion on how to leverage student engagement in open source communities, and how those open source communities can benefit from the pool of fresh new talent and the tradition of deliberate and reflective learning that schools and good teachers provide.

Power Management Summit

This is an opportunity for developers working on Linux power management to meet face to face to review the progress of the last year, and to look ahead to the challenges of the coming year.  The format shall be a single focused discussion. Presentations are permitted to guide discussion. Linux Security Summit

The aim of the Linux Security Summit is to provide forum for collaboration between Linux OS security developers, researchers, and end users. The format of the summit will be: selected presentations, lightning talks, and a Q&A panel session. Topic areas include, but are not limited to: System hardening, Access control, Cryptography, Integrity control, Hardware security, Networking, Storage, Virtualization, Desktop, Tools, Management, Case studies, Emerging technologies, threats & techniques. Presentations will be selected via a CFP process by the Program Committee.

Bluetooth Mini Summit

Sunday, August 9th & Monday, August 9th

The Bluetooth mini summit is for active or interested developers of the BlueZ Bluetooth stack for Linux. It is a highly technical summit. The agenda is as always flexible and will be defined at the beginning of the summit following by a round of lighting talks. The core topics are Bluetooth 3.0 (aka High Speed) and Bluetooth 4.0 support (aka Low Energy). This includes subtopics like AMP, Security Manager, eL2CAP, Attribute Protocol & Profile. Additionally new profiles like HDP, MAP etc. will be discussed as well. Also the integration of BlueZ into oFono and ConnMan is part of the discussion points as well.
