What is the South China Morning Post iPad application?

The app is purpose-built for the iPad and allows users to quickly and easily access the South China Morning Post iPad edition. ↑ top

How much does the South China Morning Post iPad edition cost?

You can download the app for free. Within the app you'll be able to view the current issue as well as the last 5 days. However for launch you will be able to download a free trial edition of the South China Morning Post iPad edition for free until further notice. ↑ top

Will the full (paid) edition be the same as the free trial edition currently available?

No. The free trial edition will be a smaller version of the full edition allowing you to sample content from each of our sections (News, Business, City, Life and Sport). The full edition will contain even more stories from the South China Morning Post print edition. ↑ top

I have a SCMP Print subscription, will this entitle me to a free SCMP iPad edition?

No. Each edition will be sold separately although a bundled subscription package will be introduced at a later date. ↑ top

I have a SCMP.com subscription, will this entitle me to a free SCMP iPad edition?

What devices does the app work on?

The application is designed specifically to work on all versions of Apple's iPad platform. ↑ top

How do I get the application onto my iPad?

From your computer: Use your account details to log in to the iTunes store, search for 'South China Morning Post' and download the app to iTunes. You can then sync the app with your iPad.

How do I remove the application from my iPad?

To remove the app, follow the same procedure that you use for any other iPhone or iPad applications. Press and hold the SCMP icon on your homescreen until it begins to wobble. Press the "X" in the corner of the icon and then tap delete to remove the icon. You can also remove the icon directly via iTunes. ↑ top

Do I have to be online to read the content?

No. You will need internet access to open the app and download an issue but once downloaded you will be able to view the content offline with the exception of the Latest News section which does require internet access. ↑ top

I cannot find the content I am looking for?

The current version of our application only contains News, Business, City Life and Sport. As we enhance our app with periodic updates to the app store this content will grow. ↑ top

Will the South China Morning Post iPad edition have an edition every day?

No. The current version of our app will only have issues Mon-Sat (6 days a week). For the time being Sunday Morning Post will not be available. As we enhance our app with periodic updates we will look to introduce this. ↑ top

How do I register/subscribe?

To subscribe to scmp.com, please visit our SCMP Subscription Packages page and choose a package that suits your interests. First-time subscribers will be requested to create a unique username and password, and provide general profile information. We suggest you record these for future reference. Previous scmp.com registered users who opt to subscribe may have to update their information and additional services preferences.

To subscribe:

  • Select one of the subscription offers in " Subscription Packages" and complete the payment details before submitting the form.
  • Should any of the required information be missing or incorrect upon submission, the Subscription Form will load again, indicating the missing/incorrect field(s).
  • A Check Out page, with the summary of your purchase, will be presented. Please note that upon accepting this Check Out page, your credit card will be charged with the corresponding amount. This action will be confirmed with a Thank You/Confirmation page, and allow you to choose your preference of e-newsletters.

Should you opt for our "All-In-One" subscription package of the South China Morning Post print edition and scmp.com, you will need to provide your delivery information before reaching the Check Out page. ↑ top

When is my subscription with scmp.com activated?

Payments by cheque will be processed offline. Therefore please allow three working days for payment to be processed and your account to be activated. Users paying with Visa, MasterCard or American Express will have immediate access to their scmp.com account. ↑ top

Does scmp.com offer corporate or academic subscriptions?

Yes. To apply for a multi-licence access (from 10 readers to unlimited) to scmp.com for your company, school or library, please complete the Corporate Subscription form. ↑ top

What are the payment options when subscribing to scmp.com?

Scmp.com permits payment by credit card (Visa, Mastercard and American Express) or cheque. Payment by cheque require three working days as these are processed offline. Cheques must be payable to "South China Morning Post Publishers Ltd" and mailed to:

I have registered, and I know my login and password. But when I log in, my password is not accepted. What is wrong?

We suspect your browser is unable or has not been activated to accept cookies. If you are using the office computer, we suggest you contact your IT administrator. If you are using your home computer, you can check or adjust your browser preferences as instructed below.

For Internet Explorer:

From the menu bar, click on "Tools"; and select "Internet Options". Click on "Privacy" tab (the third tab). then click on "Advanced" button. In the pop-up, cehck the boxes for "Override automatic cookie handling" "Accept Third-party cookies", and "Always allow session cookies". 

For Firefox:

From the menu bar, click on "Tools" and select "Options". Click on "Privacy" and check "Accept cookies from sites", and click "OK". Your browser will now be able to accept cookies.

For Chrome:

Click the “Tools” menu and select “Options”. Click the “Under the Hood” tab and then “Content settings” which is under the “Privacy” section. Select “Allow local data to be set”. Your browser will now be able to accept cookies. ↑ top

Do I have to log in every time I visit scmp.com?

Using our Forms

Subscription Form

For unlimited access to scmp.com content you will need to register for a subscription package which will require you to complete the Online Registration Form. This form requests general personal information. Completing the Registration Form involves three easy steps.

Step one: Select your subscription package

Simple choose the duration and the number of supplementary accounts you would like.

Step two: Account Information

You will be required to create a unique username and password. Your unique username needs to be at least 6 characters long. We recommend not using the same name for both username and password. Please note that all password fields ARE CASE SENSITIVE. This means that you can use numbers, small case, and capital letters within your password. (example: pasSWorD2). You can automatically check the availability of your username on registration. 

To check the correct composition of your password, you are required to fill in the confirmation field. We recommend keeping note of your unique username and password, for future reference.

As well as your preferred start date, you’ll be asked for some personal information. Fields indicated with an "*" are required and need to contain the correct information. Should any of the required information be missing or be incorrect upon submission, the Registration Form will load again, indicating the missing field(s).

Lastly, you can choose to receive regular email newsletter updates to keep you up to date with the latest news. You can also register to receive scmp.com promotional e-mails with exclusive offers from scmp.com or from our partners and advertisers. Receiving these e-mails is optional and free-of-charge. 

Step three: Checkout (subscription only)

The final step of the process requires you to submit your preferred payment details. You can pay by Visa, Mastercard or Amex online. We will accept cheque payments, if you wish to pay this way please select ‘Cheque’ and a member of our Customer Relationship Team will contact you shortly. 

The Login Page

To enter pages that hold personal data (such as your “My Account” page), or to read more scmp.com content than the metered paywall allows, you will be asked to provide your username and/or password.
