The 33-year-old produced a record lift of 249kg to finish ahead of defending champion Qi Dong (242kg) of China, who failed with his final attempt - a world record 250kg.

Eldib attempted a fourth lift to extend his world record, but failed at 252kg.

Iran's Ali Sadeghzadehsalmani finished with the bronze medal for his second lift of 235kg.

Meanwhile, Grace Anozie claimed Nigeria's sixth gold medal of the Games with victory in the women's +82.50kg category.

The 35-year-old lifted 162kg with her second attempt - over 20kg more than silver medallist Heba Ahmed of Egypt - to take the title. World champion Perla Barcenas (135kg) of Mexico collected the bronze medal.

Anozie was delighted to finally win gold, saying: 'I feel so great. I feel on top of the world, I'm so happy and I give thanks to God, my family and the team. I thank God I have gold.

'I feel happy, I've been fighting for gold for years. In Athens 2004 I got a bronze, in Beijing 2008 I got a silver and now I've got a gold.'

Iran's Siamand Rahman twice set Paralympic records as he won gold in the men's +100kg category.

The 24-year-old broke the record with his opening lift of 270kg and then extended the Games best to 280kg with his second attempt. With his final lift of the competition, Rahman loaded the bar to a world record 301kg but missed out.

Faris Al-Ajeeli took the silver medal with his successful second lift of 242kg, while Chun Keun Bae won the bronze with a best lift of 232kg.
