FOOTBALL: Naperville Central won its DuPage Valley Conference game Friday night 35-20 on the strength of three West Aurora turnovers, including a fumble recovery for a touchdown. The Redhawks (3-1, 2-0) held the ball for just over 33 minutes, allowing running back Matt Randolph to chew up 190 yards on 36 carries.

Benet tops Hinsdale South to win tournament

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Benet picked up a 25-16, 25-22 win over Hinsdale South to capture the championship at the prestigious 24-team Wheaton Classic. The Redwings now hold a 15-1 record on the season and have now won this tournament three of the four years they have played in it. Fellow East Suburban Catholic team Marist won the title last year.

FOOTBALL: Playing on its new on-campus home field for the first time, South Elgin gave a jam-packed home crowd plenty to cheer about by posting a 33-0 shutout against Metea Valley. A key turning point in the Upstate Eight Valley contest came in the first quarter when Mustangs quarterback Jarrett House injured his right knee on the final play of his team’s first possession.
