Plant Products
Plant products from overseas can pose a major risk to Australia’s natural environment, our food security and economy. This page provides information about importing plant products into Australia.
If you are bringing plant products into Australia as a passenger or sending it by mail, please see the links below:

What is a plant product?
Any commodity that contains ingredients of plant origin (including powders, fibres, oils and extracts from plants) is a plant product. A plant product could be:
- dried and processed fruit and vegetable products
- furniture made of water hyacinth or banana fibre
- herbs and spices
- jewellery
- organic fertiliser
- pet food
- processed and semi-processed seed and grain products
- stock feed
- white rice
Note: Some plant products are so highly refined or processed that they do not pose a biosecurity risk. These products can include plant oils and extracts for human consumption, and cotton clothing. Where there is no biosecurity risk, AQIS may not need to be involved in their importation.
For food containing dairy products or eggs (such as mooncakes, baby food, and frozen pizza), please refer to the Biological Import Program.
Further information on import conditions for plant products, and the documentation required by AQIS, can be found by searching the Import Conditions database (ICON).
