The judges at the 2013 Annie Awards lavished Disney Animation Studios with Awards over the weekend, giving it up to "Wreck-It Ralph" across multiple categories including Best Animated Feature, Best Director (Rich Moore), and an award for Alan Tudyk for his role as King Candy in the video game family movie. Even the short, "Paperman" was shown love, winning the Best Short Subject award. Outside of a few production awards for "ParaNorman," other competing features like "FrankenWeenie" or "Brave" failed to pick up more than a handful of prizes. So are we looking at a preview of Oscar night?

Will the Academy give it up to a movie mixing classic and modern video games, or will Pixar take home another award?

It was the Gore Verbinski-directed Rango's night this Saturday as the CG film took home four awards, including Best Animated Feature at the International Animated Film Society event.The Simpsons also had a good night, taking home three awards including Best General Audience Animated TV Production, bringing the series' lifetime tally of Annies up to 30. Meanwhile, the Disney series Prep and Landing snagged a few awards of its own, including an award for Character Animation in a Television Production.

Something interesting to note: not a lot of winners in the field of traditional animation this year, likely a result of fewer hand-drawn series making their way to the big and small screen.

It might be the Year of the Rabbit, but at theĀ 38th annualĀ Annie Awards -- given for excellence in animation -- last weekend it was definitely the year of the panda and dragon. Dreamworks' "How To Train Your Dragon" won 15 out of the 24 award categories, and their TV special "Kung Fu Panda Holiday" won five.

Perhaps the big Dreamworks sweep lended credence to Disney/Pixar's complaint that the awards were unfairly skewed towards the movie studio -- but in a year where the latter withdrew their traditional support of the awards and did not submit their films for the competition, they still won an Annie for their animated short subject "Day & Night."
