Danny successfully connects to a server in the early 90's to play some SimCity 2000.
I use to play this game when it first came out and love it. The music sure help bring back a few memories.
Sim city, from maxis and From bullfrog Sim Theme park, Theme hospital Populous such Great games by that time.
Haha I remember playing this in the computer lab in elementary school. Good times...
You need to do "Sim Tower", that game was amazingly fun in building sky scrappers. I remember being able to track and name an individual before even the days of Theme Park Tycoon. Maxis had a lot of good simulation games before they were bought out by EA (much like the fate of westwood studios). I even have a working copy of Sim Farm which runs under Windows 3.1, which laid the foundation for all those crappy Facebook farm simulators.
Maxis was initiative too, as Sim Copter allowed you to fly around in cities that you built in Sim City 2000.
*sigh* where did all the intuitive ideas and developers go that focused on game play?Twisted Metal Black...... Once again a brilliant video please do Twisted metal Black you will have so much fun with it
Even if the new game wasn't a total f***-up with its always-on DRM and all that other stuff that just smacks of corruption and apathy towards customers and the "No Refunds" thievery on a product that doesn't work etc. etc. etc. I still don't think I'd buy the new game, just because I don't like how the linking up with other cities works, and I don't like the little square of land you're fenced into.
I would advise people to amuse themselves with SimCity 4 instead, if you can find a place to buy it that doesn't reek of greed and evil.
Loved the video btw Danny. Once again, very entertaining.
This game formed the foundation of my childhood gaming back on my Windows 95 PC. I spent so many hours playing this and building cities of amazing complexity - no that's a lie. I actually would design the map to be completely flat and have a waterfall mountain along the edge so I could have enormous amounts of cheap and clean hydroelectric energy. I also would build a grid city spanning the whole map. It wasn't exactly aesthetically pleasing but damn it was efficient.
Back in 1996 I used to play Sim City and Pizza Tycoon. It's strange to look at it now because it reminds me of the old Microsoft Paint : /
Mr. O'Dwyer, first off great video, any game from gog would be a blast to see you tear through. But I would like to request Future Cop LAPD... This game occupied countless hours of my childhood, fantastic level design, soundtrack, and an arcade base assault mode that is hard to stop playing. Sky Captain is a scoundrel, you'll find out....
Loving all the videos. You should do Heart of Darkness on the PSone. Havent seen that game for years!!
Ah the good old days... where you dont need to be connected to the internet to play Sim City!!! Get it, EA!!! Anyways, it has been a long time since I have seen and played Sim City 2000. Thanks for the sweet reminder, Danny!!!
What's the difference between Sim City 2000 and EAs Sim City? Sim City 2000 actually works.
@RASquints
Because it was actually made with heart and passion rather than just $ dollar signs in eyes.
I remember I played this game back in the early 2000's. Never did play any of the other SimCity games.
Now that the newest title got a 5.0.... which I was planning on buying, because it looked pretty cool; I'm pretty sad.
It looked cool in the interview shows and previews.. but, now I need to return to my childhood -_-
Anyway - Danny, thanks for the nostalgia!
nice choice - classic game
I always lose my patience when playing Sim City though. The game always seems to want you to fail.
Even the premade cities had failing economy. I mean sure they had it nice when you loaded the map but the economy was never sustainable.
It's fun building the city but that feeling that you'll never get it right so it can run almost autonomously.
I just never could get any city to prosper but maybe I didn't try hard enough. Usually I just played a couple of hours then quit.
Great game anyway. Nice and funny presentation as always.
&Don;'t go to Bob's house. There's been a shootout.
For your next game how about one of those 90's or 00's flight sims. There were dozens of them. Some more arcady and some a little more serious.
Gunship 2000
Red Baron
Aces of the Pacific
Their Finest Hour
B-17 Flying Fortress
Rise of Flight
Crimson Skies
IL-2 Sturmovik
@Saketume - Flight Unlimited was ace too, remember the mirical button! Lol
or even the MegaCD's Thunderhawk! god i played that game to death!!!!!!
@Saketume @Dougsmoog What about Wing Commander? I remember playing that from good old dosshell
@Dougsmoogoh and I almost forgot "Wings" also on Amiga.
It had a nice story and a few different types of missions.
Either 2D scrolling or 3D cockpit.
I used to play "Ace" and "Ace of Aces" on the C64 and "Fighter Bomber" on Amiga.
F/A 18 Interceptor on Amiga made a huge impact when it was released in 1988. Top Gun was still a fresh movie memory and all.
@brxricano Man, that was an awesome game - would definitely be cool to see Danny play it. Nocturne would be cool to see too, even though the controls are going to feel pretty wonky compared to todays standards.
Nice, I remember playing this game a little bit at my friends house (on his awesome PC!) when I was younger. Only other SimCity I've played is the original (or a remake of the original?) on SNES, ah that takes me back! Nothing better than constantly losing your saved data because the cartridge can't handle all the info! (except using the infinite money cheat so you can rebuild quickly!)
Oh, that makes me remember, one thing the new SimCity is missing: Scenarios! Those were good fun in SimCity (SNES), like you'd have a pre-built city with terrible pollution, or traffic congestion, or low employment, or a meltdown crisis, and you'd have to sort things out. That really could have been interesting in the new game. (oops just saw the end of the video, looks like you covered it...)
As I remember it you know you have done well once you start getting the bio-domes etc...
Classic game does any one remember MDK? -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MDK_(video_game)
Weird looking alien-esk flying man thing and a dog sidekick named Max, what more do you need!
@Dougsmoog Yea MDK is on the shortlist too. We'll get around to it soon enough! :)
@Dougsmoog I'd totally forgotten that gem! They seriously don't make 'em like they used too. Good times!
@Dougsmoog I remember it! I used to replay the demo again and again and again and again....and again
Danny, can you PLEASE do S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl? It's like one of the most atmospheric games ever made!
