The pristine Na Pali Coast stretches 15 miles along the northwest shore of Kauai, Hawaii’s northernmost and oldest island. Much of the coast is inaccessible due to staggering cliffs, but the sea caves, scalloped beaches, lava tubes and rugged mountains make it a challenge for the true adventurer. Kalalau Beach (pictured) lies at the end of the 11-mile Kalalau Trail. The steep and narrow route offers the only land access to the beach, but boat or sea kayak is another popular way to get to the coast. (Diane Cook and Len Jenshel/National Geographic Stock)
