Skyrim PC update adds Legendary difficulty

New 1.9 title update for latest Elder Scrolls title also raises level cap, fixes bugs; scheduled for console launch this month.

Bethesda today released an update for the PC version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that adds a new Legendary difficulty and raises the game's level cap. The 1.9 title update is scheduled to hit consoles sometime later this month.

PC Skyrim players can opt in to the 1.9 beta by selecting the Beta tab from the Steam properties menu and choosing from the drop box.

Bethesda cautioned players to be sure to back up their saved games or be careful not to overwrite existing saves. Those who choose to opt out of the beta will find their saves intact and functional with the current Skyrim 1.8 version.

In addition to a new Legendary difficulty setting for Skyrim, title update 1.9 adds Legendary Skills.

"Skills of 100 can be made Legendary. This will reset the skill to 15, return its Perks and allow the skill to affect leveling again," Bethesda said. "This effectively removes the overall level cap."

The Skyrim 1.9 title update also fixes a range of bugs, including a rare instance when couriers appear only dressed in a hat. A full list of fixes and tweaks is available at Bethesda's website.

Yeah, how about fixing fps lags on the PC version, especially with some mods enabled. Running the game on an Intel quad-core and GTX 660 2 GB and the game still has some lag on ultra settings.

My character is already legendary, I don't need a silly update =P

Difficulty patches are always nice, so this one is too. Cept for the fact that Ive done most sidequests multiple times already.. there is no point doing them again with harder enemies :/ I won't get any recognition for doing em anyway, aside from guards going "nice work doing so-and-so"..

Will they fix the follower you can dismiss, but never re-recruit? Will they fix the Hagraven that you can never finish the quest of if you refuse to help her sister? Ooo maybe when you turn into a werewolf the first time, it doesn't remove all of your followers from the game permanently? That'd be sweet.

@russelloh You'd have better luck with the Unofficial patches. Bethesda cares very little for QA, as it is well known.

I miss Skyrim, damn myself for giving up Xbox 360 for Lent. But by the time Lent is over and I once again have a controller in my hands, it's game on time! And this patch will have already been released so that's nice to know. I would have preferred this news be about that supposed Redguard DLC. I wanna see what Hammerfell looks like, what new weapons we'll get, new weapons are always beautiful. I loved the Stalhrim sword and greatsword along with the Nordic sword and greatsword. New armors like Silve Armor would be totally sick!

By now everyone already finished the bulk of Skyrim, including the 3 DLC. Could this be a prep. for an actual expansion?

6orange6

@zrdle agreed, so far skyrim and oblivion before it, just have given us 'fake' area expansions that you cant wander into from the main map. Lets see the world expanded properly, not just give us a giant 'room' to explore.

@6orange6 @zrdle With Bloodmoon for Morrowind, you could swim (or fly or jump or whatever) from Vvardenfell to Solstheim!

Yeah, ok.  So you get perks returned, but does that mean that they are perks you can use to add to other skill trees?  Also, what of the perks that were removed from a legendary skill?  Does that mean you lose all of those perks in that skill tree?  That would be kinda stupid unless you can just re-allocate them to that tree.  The mod that allows you to spend dragon souls for perks pretty much makes this update useless anyway, other than the addition of additional HP/MP/STA increases.

jessie82

@ZOD777 you would still have to kill 200 orso dragons to max em out.. easiest way would be to use the console commands...

ZOD777
ZOD777

@jessie82 I would rather feel like I earned them somewhat. Plus there are mods for more dragon encounters which I use as well.  They are plentiful.  Not to mention, I don't use every set of skills with each character.

Is destruction magic viable yet?

ZOD777
ZOD777

@LesserAngel How so?  Destruction magic is actually somewhat overpowered as it is.  In fact, I have a hard time not killing my followers with certain area effect destruction spells.

LesserAngel
LesserAngel

@ZOD777 @LesserAngel It's not viable in that on Normal Difficulty, It takes you several blasts to take out an enemy that can take you out in one (With the same spell), it was ridiculous, though it's been a while since I've played so they may have patched it a while ago.

ZOD777
ZOD777

@LesserAngel I have had a hard time with taking damage with my mage wearing Archmage's robes as well, but I am working on enchanting skills to have the same perks as the robes on some armor.  This is my third or fourth character build, and I am not used to being so frail.

you can remedy that with the perk gained through a black book quest.

DLCs; you can choose an ability that negates all damage to followers.

@Master_cheat001 @jhcho2 No, it's not what you want.

But it was worth every thriling second of it.

And if that's what you think of Dark Souls, maybe you should remove that avatar of yours, I don't think you even know who the guy you use in your avatar is.

I just started again recently with Skyrim due to Dragonborn (which was awesome by the way), and now they do this. Dammit Bethesda, why do you hate my free time so much?

%sIf you reset a skill with Legendary and get your perk points in that skill refunded, you can level it back up, re-add those perks and end up with surplus perk points to spend.

@jessie82 ummm it's $39.99 at Best Buy, also there won't be a goty edition for a while since there are still 2 more dlc/expansions to release.

@Dalexith78 @jessie82 where have you heard of 2 more expansions?

DragonbornBoy86
DragonbornBoy86

@Celiria_Rose @Dalexith78 @jessie82 REDGUARD has been talked about for a good month or 2 now. It's not been officially confirmed but odds are it's gonna be that. They found out early on that Dragonborn was code-named, and they were right, so it's probably only a matter of time before we hear about the Redguard DLC. I'd love for the last DLC if there really are 2 more left, to be about the Psijic monks and maybe even the Greybeards.

does a "legendary" skill get any bonus when compared to a non-legendary skill??? I don't get it, for example do you all of a sudden suck again with one-handed weapons, or are you just as good with them (minus perks for a while), only now your skill is 15? Wouldn't you be crippled if your best skills were made 15 again?

The-Neon-Seal
The-Neon-Seal

@MangoDave Yeah, I'd want it so if you maxed out a seconed time, it would be the equivelant of LV185.
