Magicka developer Arrowhead Game Studios has discussed the origins of its spell-casting adventure in a new interview. Currently working on movie-inspired brawler The Showdown Effect, design director Emil Englund has gone right back to the start, to tell VG247 about the studio’s birth and reflect upon its continuing success.

Special Forces: Team X is the new team-based, third-person tactical shooter from Zombie Studios. It launches on PC and Xbox 360 digitally later this year and publisher Microprose has unveiled a batch of screens and a trailer that show people getting blown up, chainsaw-wielding maniacs, soldiers being stabbed violently and a ludicrous amount of expended bullets. They also have a slight Borderlands feel to them. See for yourself below.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has received another new update from the patch-happy types at Valve. We only just reported on a weapon balancing patch that was implemented last week, but this new update nukes the Desert Eagle, and adds a new spectator mode into the mix. You can access it via the ‘Play With Friends’ menu using GOTV.

Street Fighter X Tekken: Version 2013 has received a final batch of change videos, courtesy of Capcom. The clips show off key balancing, frame and move changes to many characters including, Blanka, Xiayou, Yoshimitsu and Abel. See how your fighter has changed in the update here.

Mass Effect 3 is being patched today, a post on the BioWare Social Network announced. Although these times are approximate, the PlayStation version rolls out at midnight PST and will be followed by the Xbox 360 update at 1:00AM PST. The PC trails behind at 10:00AM PST. The patch fixes a multiplayer bug which allowed inappropriate use of missile ammunition and a memory issue related tio loading DLC.

Valve co-founder Gabe Newell has said Steambox and its brethren will race to beat Apple to the living room, while traditional consoles will be left eating dust.

Tera makes the jump to free-to-play on February 5, according to Destructoid. The change applies to both Korean and western servers, and was announced last month. Tera merged its US servers in September and many of its development staff were laid off in August. It launched in the west in mid 2012 after more than a year as a Korean exclusive.

Battlefield 3′s End Game DLC will contain “Air Superiority” mode, this we know; however, it will also contain four new multiplayer maps focused on high-speed combat and three new vehicles including dirt bikes. Dropships will also provide support to ground troops, and with vehicle drop capabilities, along with rapid deployment air drops of troop transports. Capture the Flag mode also returns. End Game expected in March and is the last pack of DLC for the shooter. More information through the IGN link.
