Nintendo thinks the Wii U began the eighth generation of video games hardware; random other people think it’s actually 7th-gen (also known as current-gen for the past seven years). We may be finding out know what the real answer is. First, Frostbite 3 games (including Battlefield 4, Dragon Age 3 and the next Mass Effect) won’t be on Wii U. Next, The Unreal Engine 4 games won’t, either.

MCV magazine is apparently reporting that last week sales of Wii U systems rose 125 percent. The last two weeks have been eventful for the console, as it saw the release of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and on Monday HMV began clearing out its stock by offering the Premium Wii U sets with Nintendo Land and ZombiU bundled for £199 — £45 cheaper than the nearest competitor.

If you’ve looked at the eShop page for Darksiders 2 on your European Wii U accounts today, you might have noticed a notification that March 31 will be the last day that anyone can buy the game digitally. After that, previous purchasers can re-download, but otherwise it will be gone. There is no similar message on the N. American shop. RIP THQ, again. This may be temporary, as Crytek will attempt to buy the franchise rights soon.

For the fiscal year that for some strange reason ended on February 2, GameStop pulled in revenue adding up to $8.89 billion, which is a loss of $269.7 million, apparently. Also, that total is down seven percent year over year.

Ubisoft Montpellier has pushed out the first patch for Wii U launch title ZombiU , and to the relief of those few affected by them, the update corrects a number of game-breaking glitches. A collection of missing interactive objects, objectives, vanishing ladders and more have been fixed, so you should be able to continue on with any quests which stymied you. Nintendo is making an effort to reach out to indies these days, and another title has entered the Wii U fold. Or, rather, it will, a long time from now. In March 2014, Eden Industries will launch their quirky RPG Citizens of Earth in the Wii U eShop. Siliconera says it’s like Earthbound meets Little King’s Story. That is intriguing.

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is the new Japanese number one this week, leaving One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 trailing by only a few thousand units.
