Gearbox believes NRA should be advocating gun laws instead of pointing fingers at games

Violence in video games is a hot button issue in some circles, with pundit going as far as to blame gun violence on crimes committed around the world, and most recently in the US. One of the most vocal accusers of late, is the EVP of the National Rifle Association, Wayne LaPierre, who in the wake of the school shooting in Connecticut called the video game industry a “callous, corrupt, and corrupting shadow industry that sells and sows violence against own people, through vicious violent video games.” His opinion, is not one which Gearbox president Randy Pitchford shares.

XSEED’s Ark of the Ages out on Android, iOS version coming soon

XSEED has released Ark of the Ages on Android. The first mobile title from the company is an action-RPG developed by Meteorise. Ark of the Ages has players taking on the role of a young knight who has been sent to investigate a series of incidents at a local village. Upon his arrival, he finds a massive ancient tower constructed by a wizard known as the Tower of Magic. You can guess where things go from there, as you meander through 24 dungeons. You can pick the game up through Google Play for $1.99 and soon on iOS.

Gamefly has laid-off 15% of its staff

Gamefly, the video game rental service, has laid-off 15% of its staff in order to “better align” the company to the “existing console and digital games markets.” The firm told GI International the service will be able to continue functioning the same with the smaller team. There won’t be any “significant” changes made to its business or service model, as the company “remains profitable with a strong balance sheet.” Get more through the link.

According to a tweet from the title’s Twitter account, translated by Kotaku: “The voices from those folks aboard are definitely getting through!” Back in January, producer Tomoya Asano said he was preparing things he wanted “everyone to look forward to,” so, here’s hoping we’ll hear more soon.

PlanetSide 2 – preliminary list of contents included with game update 04 released

PlanetSide 2 has an update in the works, and SOE has provided a preliminary list of what to expect with GU04. Tentatively scheduled for release next week, contents include: a Flash update featuring a Wraith Module, rumble seat, a new shotgun, account level unlocks, VR training, new respawn and map screen, membership enhancements, and more. Rock Band 3 DLC next week contains tracks from RHCP, Blink-182, All-American Rejects

Rock Band 3 is getting tracks from All-American Rejects, Blink-182, and Red Hot Chili Peppers next week.Previously available through Rock Band Blitz, the tracks are: Kids in the Street, Always, and Give It Away, respectively. Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrade will be available for the RHCP track. The tracks will run you the usual, and will release March 5 on PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360, and on PS3 in Europe March 6.

Deus Ex: Human Defiance trademark is for the film based on Human Revolution

The Deus Ex: Human Defiance trademark which popped up earlier this week is, as suspected, for the movie based on the franchise and not a new game in the series. The correlation was figured out by Superannuation, after a domain registration filed by CBS Films popped up online. The movie will feature a cyberpunk setting according to filmmaker C. Robert Cargill, and is based on 2011′s Human Revolution.
