Giveaways Try PlayStation Plus free for 30 days in the UK

Ah PlayStation Plus. I remember when it was first rumoured, and everyone was up in arms abut Sony charging for online services. "This is the sort of crap Microsoft would pull!" complained loyal PSN user Straw_Man. "I'm cancelling my free subscription!"

Little did we know that PS Plus would turn out to be, you know, actually very good. By subscribing you get rotating discounts on all sorts of content, up to 65 actual games for free every year, online storage for game saves, automatic software updates and various other exclusive access deals.

Instant Game Collection is particularly awesome. As I type, PS Plus subscribers can download WipEout 2048, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush and Lumines: Electronic Symphony for the PS Vita, and Limbo, inFamous 2, LittleBigPlanet 2 and MotorStorm Apocalypse for PS3. For no extra charge. The offers change regularly. For example, as of yesterday the God of War HD Collection is free.

For obvious reasons, Sony is pushing PlayStation Plus pretty hard this year, and earlier this month the UK office got in touch asking if we'd like to give away thousands of free 30-day trials for people in the United Kingdom. And we thought: why not? It's hard to be cynical about this one. We genuinely recommend people give it a go. If nothing else, it gives you 30 days to play some games you may have missed out on.

There are only a couple of things to bear in mind before committing. 1) These codes will not work if you have previously subscribed to PS Plus and let it expire. They're for new users only. So if that's you, enjoy! And 2) This is a 30-day free trial but if you take no action at the end of that period it will automatically sign you up to a 90-day subscription, so watch out for that. Maybe set an alarm on your phone and label it "DECISION TIME" or something.
