EA absence from European PS4 developer list an error

Battlefield and FIFA publisher says Sony will issue an updated and corrected document later today.

Yesterday, a Sony representative confirmed that the original list of 143 PlayStation 4 developers was issued in error. An updated document saw the number of European developers shrink from 53 to 30. As it turns out, this latest list is also incorrect.

FIFA and Mass Effect publisher Electronic Arts was named on the list as a partner for Japan and North America, but not Europe. Guildford-based Criterion Games (a wholly owned EA studio) was on the list, but if its inclusion was meant to represent EA as a whole, then why was EA-owned Swedish Battlefield developer DICE left off?

This was a mistake and a new list from Sony will be released today, EA said.

"The confusion in the release lists was an error; Sony will be correcting it today," Electronic Arts senior director of corporate communications John Reseburg told GameSpot today. "Watch their feeds for an update."

Sony has yet to issue the new list of PS4 developers and a company representative was not immediately available to comment. When the company does provide a new list of developers, this story will be updated with relevant information.

Wish they'd stay off the list.  That EA logo is an eyesore.

This was quite amusing after reading about how EA thinks we love DLC :D

I think EA are trying to reasure their "fans" that they will be making games for the PS4.
Unfortunately, EA's record high 5 customers are not console gamers.... so the point is moot.

This is completely redundant. Why would any developer not be "on the list" for PS4? They're game companies! LOL

@Kabbalistica

That wasn't the initial case with the PS3.
Valve went apeshit over the PS3 specs, but then eventually calmed themselves. The main reason for this announcement by Sony is to reinforce the main role of the PS4, which is gaming; and that devs will continue to make games on the next-gen console. Most devs could've said, 'no the specs aren't good enough for the games we have in mind', and so we'd be stuck with kiddy games and gimmicky kinect like devices--you know what I mean?

Does even matter if EA missing from the list? You know they are going milk the money out of us I mean they are going make "great game"

I don't get it, did EA be the bad guys or something, am seeing comments that are misdemeanor.

Nope it's not an error. It's pretty accurate to me. EA never had the skills to for making ps4 games, much less a "good" game. All they care is money, money, money, day one DLC, and more money.

Well... that's a shame. But I'm sure they have plenty of sunglare, pay to win, Nailed It?, dumbed down, online only, DLC passes up the ass, 2-hour campaign shooters waiting for us (Battlefield 4).

@toshineon Crysis 3 was only 3 hours long. NFS Run was 2 hours. I can totally see BF4 being 2 hours OR LESS.

@berserker66666 @toshineon Probably, yeah. I wish they brought back the bots that BF2 and previous games had so that you can play any map you want whenever, but that would actually give the game logevity and replayability, so we won't get that.

Off-topic: Isn't x86 architecture easy to hack it? I mean, PC uses this kind of architecture, and that means pirated PS4 games after launch period will appear.

mav_destroyer
mav_destroyer

@desert_thief Same hardware but different software/OS. It's an interesting aspect to consider but I think Sony will try to keep its hardware mostly piracy free as it did with its current consoles.

nedrith
nedrith like.author.displayName 1 Like

@desert_thief The PC is so easy to hack because you have open access to modify all the files and such.  The encryption on the PS3's hard drive was so strong hackers couldn't really crack it.

Not to mention to modify the OS to remove piracy checks would require a method to modify.  The PS3's OS was secured through multiple keys.  So even if you could get a hold of the key to decrypt the OS and then figure out how to remove the checks you would have to get a hold of the private key to re-encrypt it.

The PS3 wasn't hard to crack because of the Cell processor it was hard to crack because it implemented a strong chain of trust security system.  However even though it did Sony failed to properly secure part of it's keys.  Even so it held out for a lot longer than the 360 or any PC DRM.  Until even a year ago a lot of new games were almost impossible to pirate because Sony managed to patch the problems to original break for new games.

If you keep your mouth shut and stop hating on Sony, you wouldn't get embarassed in front of everyone.

Nintendo are not in Sony's league in the console race.

Nintendo own the handheld market. I'll give them that.

Vita is a handheld... PS4 will do fine... it'll pummel Wii U into submission. Everyone knows that by default. Also, Nintendo will likely become a "software" company in the future.

You have no hope, kid. Give up.
