Fuse character trailers introduce us to the squad

EA has released a quartet of new trailers for Insomniac's upcoming squad-based cooperative shooter Fuse. Each centers on an individual member of the Overstrike 9 special forces team, introducing audiences to their backstory and unique abilities. Above, we get a look at team leader Dalton Brooks, a cynical and dryly-snarking former mercenary whose special ability lets a player project a fixed energy field, shielding teammates from enemy fire. The three videos below serve as an introduction to the rest of the team. Naya Deveraux is Overstrike 9's stealthy assassin, whose personal cloaking device enables her to sneak around a battlefield undetected, and whose gun seems to shoot miniature black holes. Naya's family issues rear their heads as her father — who trained her in her youth to...

Awakened developer releases Unreal Engine 4 tech demo as Kickstarter clock ticks down

Awakened developer Phosphor Games released an Unreal Engine 4 tech demo from the game yesterday, with the project's Kickstarter campaign nearing its end. The tech demo shows off Phosphor's concepts for Awakened in three segments. The first focuses on the biology of superpowers; the second illustrates the in-game appearance of those abilities, as built in Unreal Engine 4; and the third features pieces of clothing and accessories for the outfits in Awakened's create-your-own-superhero mode. But Awakened's success on Kickstarter seems unlikely at this point: The campaign ends in less than five days, at 10:40 a.m ET on March 6, and Phosphor needs to pull in nearly $288,000 — more than 57 percent of of its $500,000 goal — by then. Phosphor launched Awakened's Kickstarter drive in e...

Super Stickman Golf 2, the sequel to Noodlecake Studios' physics-based golf game, will be available this month, the company announced alongside the release of the game's first trailer yesterday. Noodlecake announced Super Stickman Golf 2 last July and originally planned to launch it in 2012. The studio also revamped the existing Race Mode to support eight players in local multiplayer; the first game's Race Mode, which works with two to four players, can be played online. As previously announced, a new asynchronous online multiplayer mode is the major addition to...

Injustice gameplay videos show off over-the-top finishing moves from Superman and Sinestro

Both Sinestro and Hawkgirl were confirmed for the Injustice line-up earlier this week. The videos show the over-the-top finishing moves of the characters, including an out-of-this-world attack from Sinestro that involves him pulling Superman through a portal to outer space and slamming two meteors to crush his opponent. In the battle between Green Arrow and Hawkgirl, the characters throw each other with such intensity that they crash through walls into other arenas and, at 1:21, Hawkgirl is sent flying through the sky and is beaten up by giant non-playable characters – Giganta and Atom Smasher — who are brawling in the background. Defiance video introduces the Ninety-Niners

One of the many enemy groups in Defiance is the Ninety-Niners, the focus of a new video released today by publisher Trion Worlds. The Ninety-Niners are "crazed cyborgs," miners who gave up their humanity to augment their bodies in ways that would help them scour the Earth for minerals and other precious commodities. When they were human, they ran the Muir Union Mining Company. Their cybernetic enhancements give them superhuman strength, and they're fiercely territorial beings — so be careful when you're traipsing through Ninety-Niner country. Defiance, a first-person shooter MMO that is tied into a Syfy television series of the same name, launches April 2 on Windows PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, two weeks before the series premiere. The Unreal Engine 3 game will send players to Aztec tombs, deep into the Arctic and into ancient Egyptian pyramids in search of artifacts and adventure. As protagonist James Lee Quatermain, players will face more than just deadly traps and puzzles, they'll also contend with supernatural enemies and Nazi soldiers with a taste for the occult. Rustclad trailer shows how real world objects become a video game

A trailer released recently for Rustclad, Skull Theatre's upcoming 3D adventure game, shows how the developers used traditional art skills to create, photograph and import real-world models into the game. The two-man team builds everything in Rustclad by hand, a process that has its advantages: it's a lot cheaper than 3D modeling software, and models built in the real world always come out looking realistic. You can learn more about the process in an FAQ posted earlier this month on the developer's official website. Check out the trailer above, which the developers describe as a "super early super art preview," to get a sense of how Skull Theatre uses photogrammetry to take real-world objects and recreate them in the digital domain.

Total War: Rome 2 trailer ambushes you in the Teutoburg Forest

Total War: Rome 2's depiction of ancient history includes a recreation of the real-life Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, which is the subject of a new trailer released today by publisher Sega. The battle took place in A.D. 9 and resulted in a terrible defeat for the Roman Empire. Arminius, who had been raised in Rome, betrayed the Roman general Varus — he united a number of Germanic tribes and ambushed the imperial army in the Teutoburg Forest, decimating the Roman Legion over the course of a three-day battle and forever halting Rome's attempted expansion into Germania. The trailer shows off some of Rome 2's ambush cutscenes. You can check out the first gameplay footage in a trailer Sega released in September. Total War: Rome 2 launches later this year on Windows PC.

The Last of Us Development video 'Hush' explores the conception of the Infected

Naughty Dog developers discuss in detail the inspiration and characteristics of The Last of Us' Infected in the first installment of the game's developer diaries, titled "Hush." Neil Druckman creative director said that inspiration for the Infected came from a BBC Planet Earth documentary that featured Cordyceps fungus. "As soon as we saw it we were intrigued by the idea of what if it jumped to humans? What interesting ways would it take over a human," he says. Phillip Kovats audio lead pointed out: "A very big directive from the very beginning was they're not zombies." Extended cuts of The Last of Us Development video series will be available on the game disc. The Last of Us set for a June 14 release on PlayStation 3.
