    • Visit the “Greatest Show on Sanibel” during your next Sanibel Island vacation. Beginning Saturday, Jan. 26, the Sanibel Community House will transform itself into a cirque! For their annual fundraiser, Cirque Vertigo comes to the Sanibel Community House for a 6:30 p.m. show of their newest routines, complete with chiffon aerials, graceful and daring stage acts and humor.     • As part of the Classical Afternoons series, BIG ARTS will feature pianist Priscila Navarro. Navarro, winner of the 2011 and 2012 BIG ARTS/Kenneth L. Nees Classical Music Scholarship Award, is a piano performance student at Florida Gulf Coast University’s Bower School of Music. In addition to her BIG ARTS scholarship, Navarro won the Florida Music Teachers Association Gray Perry and Byrd Piano Competition, as well as the 20th Annual International Chopin Competition in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was the youngest to compete in the Texas competition and, as part of the win, will get to compete at Carnegie Hall in march 2013.

    • The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum annual fundraiser/museum gala will feature the "groovy" theme of the 1960's. The gala will include cocktails, dinner, dancing, a silent auction, a live auction and live entertainment from the BeatleBeat Tribute Band. Guests are encouraged, but not required, to wear 1960's attire to the event to help create a retro feel.

    • Southwest Florida author Harry H. Gaines, Fitness Beyond 50: Turn Back the Clock , will be visiting the Sanibel Community House to discuss his book and offer motivational stories. Some of these include; Motivation, Exercise and the Brain, the How and Why of Aerobics, Strength Training – Retaining Mobility and Stability, Overcoming Limitations and Healthy Eating. He will also discuss reasons why exercise is critical to leading a long, active and healthy life, including the impact exercise has on our mental capabilities, and the steps that can taken to develop motivation to get going and keep going with a program.

The evening will begin with a crawfish boil and traditional Cajun dinner will be served, followed by music and a silent auction.     • The last party of the season for the Sanibel Community House will celebrate American music of the 50’s and 60’s, as we present the fabulous Uptown Express show band. This ten piece ensemble performs a blend of favorite oldies from the soul, r&b, blues and doo-wop eras.  It’s the music you danced to “back in the day”.  Partiers are welcome to dress in their favorite 50’s and 60’s finery to get in the mood.
