Food Very Good
Decor Poor - FairService Very Good
I just got a lunch combo take out order from them on my way home, chicken is okay, I ordered them spicy. I asked the guy "How spicy is 'spicy'?" told me like sriracha spicy. Turns out the sauce is Minnesota spicy which isn't that spicy at all, and mostly sweet, very sticky and carmelized the wings nicely, which had a crunchy batter coating before sauced. The egg rolls are great. Greasy? Sure, full of cabbage and spices, yup. I'm an egg roll fan, so you really can't screw them up in my opinion, anyway. The sauce is all they are worth bothering visiting for, IMHO. They sell it in bottles, so just buy some and put it on some less inferior chicken. Overall, $5 wasn't a bad deal for lunch: a huge box of fried rice, 2 cream cheese won-tons, an egg roll, 2 sauced wings, and a can of pop, but I'd rather spend $5 elsewhere next time. Nowhere to sit, just order your stuff and watch the big TV screen til the Filipino guy comes from the kitchen with your order. Conveniently located, and friendly service, just an average place to eat though.

Quality Good
I love Jimmy John's sandwiches and the service I got in the past, as well as the service I experience at the other downtown store in the skyway of the St. Paul Doubletree Hotel center (formerly located at 7th Place between Bruegger's Bagels and Walgreen's drug). I usually order online from this location and get my order within 10-15 minutes, and the drivers have always been courteous. Today I ordered two sandwiches by phone to this store at 11:53 a.m. and paid by credit card. Given the fast service I'd always experienced prior to today, I was very surprised to still be waiting after 30 minutes, and I needed to be somewhere...so I called the store in question about 12:30 p.m. asking about the status of my order. The person answering the phone (the manager) told me the driver left with more orders that she 'wasn't supposed to take with her' (his words) and said she should be on her way. It's not really my business about what your employee is doing wrong, just tell me when I can expect the service I paid for. My order arrived at 12:47 p.m. (almost an hour later), and when I answered the door, the driver waved the receipt at me and said "I need your signature." No apology for being super-late, not even a 'hello', or 'thanks' even. I asked her nicely if she knew why she was an hour late, she shrugged her shoulders and said "We're busy" and then stomped off before I could respond. I know it can get busy, but I was startled by her attitude and lack of courtesy and thought it was completely rude of both the management and the driver to be so cavalier. I like ordering JJs online because I think it's convenient, plus I presume it helps the store get my order more easily in queue for them to handle it in a timely manner. I only called today since I wanted to use a credit (from a past item forgotten but paid for) I received from a previous order. I will order again from them but only online, as I have not had a problem with that in the past. If they screw that up, I will find another location to try, since I really enjoy this food, and because the other stores I've patronized have had nothing but fast, smart, and super-friendly staff.

Overall Poor - Fair
I had read rave reviews on the Internet about this place and their pizza & wings. I used to live in a rough neighborhood, where no one but Papa John's would deliver (bleahhh! Don't get me started on Poopa John's), so when I found out about Roadside and discovered that they deliver, I was excited. I live a very short distance from this establishment, and when I moved to their neighborhood last year, I swear I gave them hundreds of dollars worth of business in a few short months. Not anymore. They have great pizza, especially their ready-to-go slices. I've never been to New York, but I imagine that Roadside's slices-to-go are the closes to New York pizza here in Minnesota that I might be able to get. I especially liked the thin, toasty crust. Crispy in the right places, and tender in the right places. The sauce in their pies was also great. Lately, however, they were going downhill for me in terms of service and attitude, not to mention the fact that they kept inching up their prices within very short periods, yet the quality of the service and food (non-pizza items) were well below par. I mean, come on. Their alfredo pasta dinner had this very plastic-ky tasting canned sauce. Gross! Taco salad with bits of American cheese and Fritos corn chips instead of cheddar cheese and tortilla chips? Ick. Then there's also the lack of real customer care and service. The first time I ordered something from them by phone, I was sure to ask them to let the driver know to come up the driveway and drive around back to my door, since I rent part of a house which does not allow me access to the front door, or even ability for me to see out the front windows to know when someone pulls up out front to see me. So every time I called after that, they always saw my phone number on the caller ID and said, "Pull up the driveway and around to the back, right?" Yet several times I had a driver go knocking on the other back door, or the front one (the home owner's entries) and they get mad me ME for it. Unbelievable. Then one driver wouldn't get out of his car to come to the door (he was like 20 yards away) because the owner's dog was out and he was scared of it. This dog is a pup! And a hyper, but friendly one. I believe it's a lab and retriever mix, and she was on a leash which was stopping short within at least 5 feet of his car! The ordering process and quality of the food gradually started dwindling, as well. Out of the last half dozen or so times I ordered something from them, they would get my order screwed up 4-5 times. For example, I would order their garlic bread (which is pretty good, especially with the melted mozzarella on top), but they'd forget to send the cup of marinara sauce but still charge me the extra $1.50 for it. Then not once, not twice--but three times--I ordered the alfredo pasta dinner, (which was okay-tasting the first couple times I got it), and they screwed that up, too! The dinner is noodles with alfredo sauce, but you can add chicken and/or sausage, then onions, green peppers and/or mushrooms for an additional price. They would forget to add the stuff to it and still charge me the full price--come on...who orders just noodles and alfredo sauce if you can get the toppings for it? I am glad I no longer give them my business. I am happy to report that I will be ordering from Pizza Man in Little Canada from now on when I am in the mood for good pizza or don't feel like cooking. Haven't tried Pizza Man's wings or other side items yet. We shall see.

Nice selection on wines, haven't checked out the grocery yet. Can be a little crowded and busy in the evenings during rush hour, of course, and the staff, while nice, seem a bit hurried, but they are helpful. Too bad they don't accept plastic. I love that this is within walking distance from where I live in my new neighborhood.

Overall Excellent
I live a very short distance from this pizza & wings place (Roadside) but lately they have started to suck, and got on my last nerve. So this weekend I was shopping around for another place to order in when I'm not cooking and in the mood for a good pie. I called Pizza Man in Little Canada and ordered a pizza around 8:40 or so. They are very quick on the phone (almost terse) but clearly understood my order and understandably have to be fast because they must be really busy on Friday nights. Before I realized it, I was off the phone with them and thought I had better call back to give them directions, since people have a hard time finding my place. My door is in the back of the house, and I don't have access to the front door or can even see out the window to know if someone pulls up, so I usually have to be specific and tell folks to pull all the way into the driveway and around the back to get to me and my doorbell. I called Pizza Man back and said that I forgot to give directions. They said they would have their driver call me if he needed help finding me. I thought that was OK, so I said thank you and hung up. At about 8:55 my doorbell rang, and there was the driver with my pizza! The driver was very pleasant and actually, charming. I was in for a treat. These guys put out a great pie. It's not your typical old school pizza joint product, with the usual underdone crust, rubbery layer of cheese, and bland ingredients. It was hot, tasty and great. I would put this pizza's taste and quality of ingredients right up there with Red's Savoy pizza, but Red's is much more greasy and a bit spicier than my system will handle if I eat more than 2 slices. I had a coupon for a 3-topping 16" pie for $16.XX, so I got sausage, pepperoni and olives. They put just enough cheese on top (not too little, not too much so that it's rubbery and thick and super greasy)...just right! Best part? The sauce. They have this very zesty yet somewhat sweet, and rich tomatoey sauce, and it was abundant. Wonderful red sauce oozing out everywhere. It was bliss, I tell you. I never get this excited about pizza delivery. Ever. So long, Roadside! You just lost a good customer.
