Welcome to GamesIndustry International - the new face of GamesIndustry.biz and IndustryGamers.com.

At Eurogamer Network, we pride ourselves in delivering high-quality websites and events under the Eurogamer brand. We're also incredibly passionate about trade journalism and if you work in games or an associated industry, you need somewhere you can rely on to find the most relevant information about your job.

Since 2002 we've provided that through GamesIndustry.biz, where under editor Matt Martin we have built up an audience of over 90,000 registered industry professionals, freelancers and students, who visit the site regularly for sharp reporting and in-depth analysis of companies and trends delivered in the best British broadsheet tradition.

In early 2011, we acquired US trade site IndustryGamers.com, edited by James Brightman - a site with near-universal recognition because of its reputation for delivering big interviews and breaking news ahead of many of its larger corporate rivals.

As of today, the new GamesIndustry International site will bring these great institutions together as one team under one banner. Edited by Matt in Europe and James in the US, the site boasts the biggest global trade editorial team in the business, with full-time reporters in the UK, New York and San Francisco.

Whereas GamesIndustry.biz was restricted to members of the trade, GamesIndustry International will be written for the trade but available to all readers without obfuscation. Those industry professionals who are already registered on the site or join from today onwards will be able to contribute to industry-only discussion areas, browse a redeveloped global company directory and more. We've also tailored the site for viewing on mobile devices.

The site will continue to deliver broad coverage of every sector of the industry - from traditional games platforms and companies to those on the bleeding edge - and we will particularly be bringing our larger team to bear on areas of growth, like Social, and great concern, like Retail.

The united site also features a new united games industry jobs board. Our separate European and US jobs boards were among the largest in the world, but together they should provide a one-stop resource for employers wishing to uncover talent and individuals looking for a role. While designing the site we took on board a lot of feedback from existing users, which should be evident in the improved interface and tools.

We really appreciate all the support we've received since we announced that we would be bringing our trade sites together, and we also appreciate your patience while we iron out any remaining bugs. If you spot anything that is broken or seems out of whack, please let us know in the comments or by email. We're also interested in your feedback in general, so thanks in advance.

Heading into the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, which takes place this week, we know that for some the games industry is in a state of turbulence while for others it's never been a stronger or more vibrant place to do business. Whatever your perspective, we hope you find something to interest you at GamesIndustry International, because for us the games industry has never been more fascinating to report on.

Thanks for reading.

Matt Martin and James Brightman, San Francisco, March 4, 2012

Look GI went next gen, its brown. Just kidding :)

I kind of liked the old look better of GI, better overview :)

Also it goes always to mobile version by default on my Vita, but I prefer the desktop version :(

I love the new look, and it's good to see both sites come together! Now I only have to check one, instead of bouncing between both for my gaming industry news.

Congradulations on the new site! I must admit I originally thought I'd typed in the wrong address.

I really like the no-login as well as the recruitment side-bar seems a bit more professional and incorporated into the site.
Keep up the good work.

@Werner... I have a strange desire to play Killzone now.

Really proud of the team for getting the site built and live, and we hope everyone enjoys using it as much as we enjoy working on it :)

Let us know your feedback! @Eoin I agree the recruitment sidebar has come together really well.

Also ...I think starring readers' comments will be my new favourite hobby :)

The old site had a small section of recent article comments on the right hand side. Would it be possible to bring this section back (perhaps even expanded to 10 comments)?

I'm with Werner on this one, I prefer the old site.

Might have to stick with Develop and EuroGamer sites as it is a lot easier to find the instant hit of news there.

While I prefer the old site, it doesn't mean that the site is bad, there are some improvement that could be made, like the Recent articles is a massive collection of articles. That should be split up into subsections such as interviews, opinion pieces, economic/sales data, general news etc, kinder what you had before with the interview section and featured.

Hey guys, we are going to be making improvements to the entire site in the months ahead. The first step was to integrate GamesIndustry with IndustryGamers, and we're certainly listening to reader feedback. So keep the comments coming!

Interesting new look.
The latest comment feed is still useful for reintegration if possible, because now I have no idea who has posted what..

Congrats on the switch and the facelift. I'll echo what Jimmy said about the recent comments though.

Looks good, and I agree that making the "recent articles" section easier to navigate would be useful -- I sometimes don't get chance to check GI for days at a time, and being able to trawl back through "features only" or whatever was very useful.

I assume this means the mobile app is now defunct?

Hi everyone! Thanks for the comments so far. For those asking for lists of particular article types, please check out our new archives. The tabs at the top are basically pre-filled archive pages, but once you're there you can modify the article type and tag combinations (eg News or Interviews only, or a combination or like Tech News - anything you like) to get to the content you want, in the timeframe you want. You can also get to the standard archive from the link at the bottom of the home page feed. Hope this helps, and keep the feedback coming!

Congratulations on a successful transition - I'd almost forgotten about the site update until I loaded the page up this morning. While there will be detractors, I hope this provides useful feedback. Looking forward to further updates.

I really like the new look, congrats! And I'm glad to see that flash doesn't start sucking all my CPU as I open GI... I hope it will stay like this! :)
Besides... I can't find the messaging feature anymore. Did it get removed?

Hi Michele! Glad you like it, thanks. Also glad you've noticed that the site is a significantly better performer. We paid a lot of attention to how to sympathetically implement advertising on the new site, and we intend for it to stay that way.

Top Comment One subtle feature you guys may have missed is the ability to promote comments that you think are of merit. We tried to avoid the typical "karma" style system as we didn't want to focus on negativity. Instead, starring a comment (using the button in the top right) that you think makes a good point - even if you don't agree with it - will eventually promote it to "Top Comment" status. You can see an example at the top of this thread.

This not only highlights comments for other users, but for the editorial team who have the ability to include particularly interesting commentary within the articles themselves.

Hopefully these tools should provide a way for good commentary to really shine. So if you find yourself reading a particularly thoughtful and well-considered comment, give it a click!

Is there an easy way to see what the latest comments have been overall, instead of having to drill into each story?

Looks good though:)

Martin Taylor

We don't currently have a latest comments function, sorry. I'll put it on the list :)

Posted:A year ago

#30

the latest comment would be really the most helpful as that's what one tends to hit as soon as one enters the site to see what the last person was commenting on :)

Posted:A year ago

#31

No biggie - I suspect I'm not alone, though, in finding that really useful to see what the latest activity is:)

First, I'd like to say that, in general, I like the new layout look. That being said I have to say that I dislike the new Archive layout. Having two rows is awkward, it makes it difficult for me to quickly scan the headlines to see what I am interested in reading. Also having the next page button only at the top of the page is an unforgivable sin.

I'm also curious about the difference between the European Edition and the US Edition. If they actually have different articles can we get an International Edition that merges both?

Posted:A year ago

#35

I'm with Matthew on this. I find it odd that there are both UK and US front pages. News in this industry is pretty international, so I'd prefer all stories under one roof.

Posted:A year ago

#36

Richard/Matthew: Every article will appear on each edition's homepage, and every user can see every piece of content - but the reason for having two separate spotlight areas is because we found the content we're producing sometimes is only relevant to a specific region. To give an example, a story about UKIE might be extremely interesting in the UK but have minimal interest to our American readers.

Adding the next page button will happen, that's just an oversight. As you might imagine we were in a bit of a rush to launch for GDC but we have plenty of new features, bug fixes and tweaks coming over the next few weeks.

Hey guys, I'm liking the new site but I only really got the chance to use it last week, and had a bit of feedback.

First of all - I definitely concur that having the option to see the latest comments would be useful. This was probably my most used function on the old design; particularly if I'd commented to someone and wanted to see if they'd replied.

Second, will you be bringing back the forum? Just for an example, it might be a neater place to give this exact kind of feedback (which I'm not sure will even get through as there's no 'latest comment' shortcut!). I also think it would be handy to use if, for instance, some folk are planning on meeting at the EG Expo.

Lastly, is there a way to see what articles I've commented on through my profile? I just had a quick scan, but all I could see was my friends/contacts. Again, this was one of my most-used aspects of the old site.

Love the new look overall though guys; keep up the good work. I hope the feedback is useful :)
