Toukiden trailer pits humans against a fiery demon

Toukiden, Dynasty Warriors developer Omega Force's upcoming action game, is the subject of a trailer released today showcasing combat as a few warriors take on a gigantic brute. Check out the Japanese language trailer above to see tiny humans fighting a gigantic fiery demon, armed with little more than swords, bows and arrows. Tecmo Koei announced the PSP and PlayStation Vita-bound Toukiden at at Sony's 2012 Tokyo Game Show press event. In a recent issue of Famitsu, producer Kenichi Ogasawara described the game as "a straight-on hunting action game," similar to Monster Hunter. Toukiden doesn't have an official release date yet, but Ogasawara has hinted at a summer release with a demo released beforehand.

Soul Sacrifice trailer is full of terrifying beasts and battles

A new trailer for Soul Sacrifice, Marvelous AQL and Keiji Inafune's upcoming action role-playing game, offers a look at the brutal battles players will engage in. Check out the trailer above to see a handful of Soul Sacrifice's formidable enemies, battle style and environments. The game will include a core mechanic where players can permanently sacrifice body parts in exchange for power or items. Soul Sacrifice is currently slated for release April 30 on PlayStation Vita. StarCraft Universe MMO mod launching through Battle.net

The creators of StarCraft Universe, a massively multiplayer online-styled mod for StarCraft 2, have launched the game's prologue to instruct and introduce players to its single-player gameplay. The mod, which requires a copy of StarCraft 2 to play, has been in development for two years. StarCraft Universe takes place 11 years after the "Utter Darkness" scenario in StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty as part of an alternate timeline. Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel trailer lays down the details on mask customization

The latest trailer for Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel offers a look at the variety of customization options for in-game masks available in the title. The short video gives you a glimpse at how players can stylize their owns masks, choosing particular colors and designs to create masks featuring skulls and makeshift happy-faces. The mask customization suite includes a number of different options that can be tweaked to create something slightly more individual, allowing users to select and edit mask decals which range from basic geometric shapes to more stylized additions, create layers and resize graphics. The latest trailer for upcoming co-op shooter from Visceral Games, Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel, demonstrates the Overkill mechanic. Army of Two's gun wielding protagonists Alpha and Bravo shoot their way through a map, filling up the Overkill gauge as they do. Once the gauge is full, Overkill kicks in for a period of time, where the player becomes invincible and weapons have the ability to blow up buildings and other structures. Familiar faces return in Mortal Kombat: Legacy Season 2 trailer

The Season 2 trailer for Mortal Kombat: Legacy, a live-action web series directed by Kevin Tancharoen, teases the upcoming battles, rivalries and return of Mortal Kombat's fiercest warriors. You can watch the trailer, posted by Machinima, above. Season 2 picks up as Liu Kang and Ermac join Johnny Cage, Sub Zero, Kitana, Mileena and more in the battle for Earthrealm. Mortal Kombat: Legacy's second season was announced in July 2012. The web series had its debut in 2011 and is produced by Warner Bros. Digital Distribution. Bungie reveals Destiny in first documentary video

Halo creators Bungie reveal first details about Destiny, the developer's new mythic sci-fi universe, in the game's first video documentary, "Pathways Out of Darkness." The new shooter, coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, puts players in the role of one of the remaining survivors of Earth following an interplanetary apocalyptic event. As Guardians, and with the aid of the mysterious protector known as the Traveler, players will defend Earth and travel to distant planets in Destiny to uncover the mysteries of mankind's downfall. Watch as Bungie unveils early details and concept art for its upcoming game, coming from publisher Activision. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance to feature DLC for Metal Gear Solid 4 armor

An additional skin will be available for Metal Gear Risng: Revengeance as downloadable content, according to a new video posted by Konami. The Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Raiden armor will be available for $1.99 when the game launches. Check out the video above to see it in action. Raiden's Metal Gear Solid 4 armor is the latest skin to be revealed. Those who pre-order the game through Amazon will receive the Inferno Armor, while European players will get a free Gray Fox costume. Metal Gear Risng: Revengeance launches Feb. 19 in North America, Feb. 21 in Europe and Feb. 22 in the UK. The game will be available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

PlayStation Evolution retrospective continues with PlayStation 2

Sony's retrospective look at PlayStation consoles in preparation for the PlayStation Meeting 2013 event continues with episode 2, which focuses on the PlayStation 2. In addition to general specs, the video details the console's initial hit in 2000 and continued success. More than 150 million PlayStation 2 consoles sold worldwide with at least 10,000 games packing its library. Sony later launched peripherals for the game, including a network adapater that allowed users to play online and the EyeToy, which introduced motion play. Check out the first episode of the retrospective, "The Beginning," here. Sony will continue to publish more episodes in preparation for its 2013 event, where it is expected to reveal its next-generation console.

A new behind-the-scenes video from the creators of PlanetSide 2 provides an inside look at how the audio team creates the game's music. You can watch the video above to see the team at work. They're responsible for all the game's sounds, from animals to gunfire. According to SOE audio director Rodney Gates, the team worked hard to create different "identities" for different game aspects. "When we started working on PlanetSide 2, one of the things that we wanted to do was establish an identity for each of the different factions that we had," Gates said. "We wanted the Terran Republic to sound like the big, bold orchestra. Star Trek trailer offers a look at 'the ultimate co-op experience'

A new trailer for Star Trek, Namco Bandai and Digital Extremes' video game adaptation, explains why the game's creators wanted a co-op experience. Check out the video above to see the game in action. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity's latest trailer offers a look at dungeon exploration and battle gameplay. Sony kicks off PlayStation Evolution retrospective series with a look at the original PlayStation

Sony says the world will "see the future" at its PlayStation Meeting 2013 event next week in New York, but today the company went back in time with a retrospective series it calls "PlayStation Evolution." The first episode, "The Beginning," focuses on the inception of Sony's video game division and the rise of its first console, the PlayStation. Sony Computer Entertainment was founded in November 1993; the PlayStation launched in Japan in December 1994, and in North America and Europe in September 1995. A pair of gameplay videos released today for Injustice: Gods Among Us shows the fan-chosen winners when the Flash fights Shazam and the Joker takes on Lex Luther. Check out the video above to see which super villain reigns supreme and the video below for the result of the superhero skirmish. The fights are part of the weekly Battle Arena video series, in which fans vote for the winners in through the Battle Arena Tournament website. Earlier this week, the organizers revealed the results of the first round when Harley Quinn fought Wonder Woman and Batman battled Bane. Today I Played: Dead Space 3

EA's had a rough go over the following years, shuttering a number of studios, nurturing a more austere slate of games. Mirror's Edge never got a sequel. The Dead Space franchise gradually exchanged its slow, quiet horror for loud guns and explosive set pieces. Coming into this game, the franchises' trajectory seemed, to an outsider, shrewdly calculated. You can imagine a board room in which an executive says, "Gamers like co-op and train sequences and epic boss battles, so let's do more of that." After playing Dead Space 3, I wonder if maybe I've read the series all wrong. That this was the natural path for the story. It's the Star Wars model (or the Campbell model) of sci-fi, in which the know-nothing hero becomes a destroyer of superhumans. It's tempting to build narratives around...
