Final Fantasy

Well, apparently early October's the season for rock medleys, as another new face joins the OCR ranks with a kicking smorgasbord of FF and CT tunes. I saw a stat on /. that indicated 64% of online gamers are female. It's thus rather disappointing/troubling/whatever that OCR doesn't have a stronger female contingency, which is why I'm bothering to mention that eighteen year old LuIzA (Luiza Carvalho) is a gal. She certainly doesn't need any special treatment - this mix is strong enough to stand on its own two legs, with limbs to spare, and I'd bet most guitar-centric mixers on the site would be damn proud of it were it theirs. It's just worth pointing out in the hopes that other ladies with musical tendencies might follow suit, if for any reason there's reluctance. This one really packs a wallop, as a plethora of Squaresoft tracks get lovingly shredded. Ms. Carvalho writes:

"this was made months ago for the Dec 2005/Jan 2006 DoD, RPG month, it placed 1st =D. I'd been wanting to do a FF battle theme medley for quite some time then, so I did. started off with an idea I had of mixing in Battle 1 (CT) with Battle (FFVII), then eventually arranged the parts that would go after and before that. Conde Petie (FFIX) is the only song in this remix that isn't a battle theme, the reason behind that is merely that I wanted to do a breakdown in the song, and need something that'd sound good after Hunter's Chance (FFIX) and could build up nicely on too, so... as for styles, those are basically what I like most, ska, punk and some metal (?). and also an old idea of mine was to include a victory fanfare as a 'bonus part' at the end, which is why there is some time after the main song... well, this is a BATTLE song medley, it oughta have a nice ending to all those battles haha."

Well, she clearly knows her game music, I'll say that much. Actually, she clearly knows how to put together a truly monstrous rock medley, too - fans of goat are going to feel right at home, methinks. You've got excellent rhythm and lead work (love that Cream-style wah effect), drums and bass that drive everything along and aren't content to ever fade too far into the background, and even some rock organ, with the afforementioned fusion of rock, ska, and metal genres putting all of this to tremendously effective use. I'd love to see Luiza do some vocal mixes, whether she sings or could collab with a vocalist, as while this is totally satisfying as an instrumental track and lacking in no way, I could see similar pieces dropping jaws if paired with the right lyrics/vocals. But that's tomorrow; for today, savor every second of this utterly in-your-face, metaphorical balls-to-the-wall tunage and start getting your Thanksgiving thankfulness in ahead of schedule - LuIzA rocks.

would've been nice if they'd given some credit.

Just listened to this for the first time and it is mindblowing. Excellent job.
Wasn't World Revolution composed by Yatsunori Mitsuda? Uematsu only did a few tracks on Chrono Trigger and I don't believe that World Rev was one of them.

Pretty damn epic. This is the way to do a medley right, kids.
Varied parts, some good guitar slinging, and interesting drum patterns and fills. Great selection of tracks as well.
Very rocking. \m/

oh wow
WOW
I never listened to this before. Insanely brilliant. This fits right in with the DoD spirit while bringing more than just shredding to the table. The shredding is awesome nonetheless mindyou.
Wonderfully diverse guitar work here.
Weak ending though, shame. But I had enough of a blast to forgive you for that.

I love this song, I just fucking love it.
I love not just because it rawk, not because it's Final Fantasy, and not because it's shred-tastic, but because of the fact it's combines them all... AND RIPS YOUR HEAD OFF DUE TO IT'S AWESOMENESS AND BEATS YOU WITH IT!!!
*Cough* Ahem, getting to what I was originally saying, it rocks hard, it just bloody rocks... good.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to scoop up the remains of my brains of the floor.

(100th review! :-D)
I've shared this one with a lot of people in person because it's so accessible as a rock/ska arrangement, you wouldn't even know you were listening to video game music. Needless to say, they've all been sufficiently in awe at the level of brutal talent involved in the song. It's really unrelenting, and especially during the shredding parts I don't think anything but "melt your face off" would be appropriate to describe what's going on!
This one's gonna be hard to top, but I look forward to seeing what the remixer throws at us in the future, should she choose to remix in this style again :-) Regardless, this is a sufficient treat for anyone looking for some epic ska-rock goodness.

I LOVE. A leaner, meaner, greener, and cleaner version of one of the coolest metal medleys ever (try saying that three times fast).

You already know how I feel about this song. I was speechless.
Fourteen-thousand five-hundred and eighty-seven MASSIVE thumbs up!

What more can be said. compatibly, your version of both, Battle with Gilgamesh and Hunter's chance were far more superior as compared to the Black Mages version. I'm not saying theirs was bad, yours was just a LOT better. I don't think I have ever found a remix until now that my fingers got sore from too much air guitar.
Air Guitarists around the world bow down to you.
Great re-mix, keep up the good work.

Easily one of my most favorite medleys to date. The part that rolls in about the middle is probably my favorite. Just the beat that gets started is astonishing. Hell, it even ends with the fanfare!
Very clean too, can't stress that enough. Everything is extremely crisp and noticeable, very professional. Awesome job LuIzA.

Hahaha. Yes to the air-guitar bit, and yes to the fanfare for a ringtone. But all in all a spectacularily put together mix and driving so many different theme together within 6:45. Excellent stuff.
