New Alien game confirmed for Xbox 720

Will have multiplayer, possibly an action title

Creative Assembly's mysterious Alien title is in development for both current and next generation consoles, a job listing on the Total War studio's site has revealed. It may also be an action title running on an all-new game engine.

"We are seeking an experienced programmer with proven skills in the area of gameplay and multi-player games," reads the listing, spotted by Gamerzines. "The successful applicant will be working on a AAA multi-platform title on current and future generation consoles set in the Alien universe."

How will Creative Assembly's effort compare to Gearbox's Aliens: Colonial Marines?
Creative is also looking for an AI/gameplay programmer: the ideal candidate "will have a passion for action games and will be part of a growing team building a bespoke game engine for current and future generations of consoles."

A senior engine/graphics programmer is sought with "demonstrable, in-depth, understanding of next-gen rendering techniques including deferred lighting/shading/shadowing, shader pipelines, special effects, particle systems, post processing techniques."

Put all those together and what do you get? Well, you get an awful lot more than Creative was prepared to give away when they announced the project. Whatever it is, they've got former Crysis 2 developers working on it. The game won't be a movie spin-off and has nothing whatsoever to do with Dead Space.

Could this be the real Alien game I've always dreamed of?

  1. I hope we get a decent 'Alien' game - this could be it! I have heard it could be 'Dead Space' esque - A survival horror!!! EXCELLENT!!!

I know we have Aliens: Colonial Marines due out later this year (Unless it gets put back AGAIN) but I do have reservations about that game. So far I have seen a few gameplay videos and everyone seems to have one fundamental error concerning the actual Aliens - their BLOOD!! It is supposed to be acidic - not a bright green toxic looking, Non damaging gloop that 'evaporates' in the air before landing on anything. It is deadly, dangerous and highly corrosive so anyone in close proximity should be damaged or killed!! I can't imagine anyone surviving underneath a shotgun blasted 'Alien' but the gameplay videos show this happening a lot with little if any effect!! It is a game breaker for me - It may look authentic but that's as far as it goes

  2. An alien RPG like fallout would be something!!

  3. I too would like a survival horror type game full of suspense and
    Genuinely scared to go on.
But so far it's looking like an all out action shooter which will be fun but not aliens.

  4. I was pleasantly surprised by the recent Colonial Marines footage. Looks much more suspenseful and Alien-esque (as opposed to Aliens-esque) than I'd anticipated.

How would you design an Aliens RPG, Ghost? I find it difficult to imagine - stats and terror seldom mix.

I think it could work, perhaps you arrive on LV426 before the colony is wiped out.

Instead of cities to explore you would have the colonial base, the reactor, the alien crash site and other key locations on your map.

You could start as a marine or as one of the colonists, exploring the planet, picking up side quests from other colonists or from the marine squad that has just arrived (pre-alien wipe out).

If your reading this bethesda, get on it now!

Yes, it would be a massive dissapointment if they don't include the corrosive property to the Aliens blood, maybe it would make the game too difficult for some, if that's the case then an option to turn on acidic blood would be needed.

This was in development at Obsidian but got canned a while back.

I wonder if it wouldn't work better as a Diablo clone. Form a Marine team, then descend into the nest. Perhaps the Hard Mode could be you by yourself, as Ripley, hunting for Newt.
