Badstuber: Bayern can become bigger than Barcelona

Germany international Holger Badstuber believes that Bayern Munich has the potential to become the biggest club in Europe and dethrone Barcelona as the continent's dominant force.

The Bavarians have made it to the final of the Champions League twice in the past three seasons but have not won the competition since they beat Valencia in 2001. Nevertheless, Badstuber is hopeful that the Allianz Arena side will soon be successful in Europe again and outshine incoming Bayern coach Pep Guardiola's former side.

"Bayern can become the biggest club in Europe, even bigger than Barcelona," the defender told Bild.

The 23-year-old is currently recovering from a knee injury, and he has set his sights on a comeback before the end of this season. Badstuber made 12 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern this campaign before he got injured.

"I am hopeful that I can play a few games for Bayern this term. That is my main objective at the moment," Badstuber said.

Götze, Hummels and Reus are world class for sure. If they go anywhere it won't be to the premie league in England. They aren't dumb.

Klinnsi was a big mistake, that's why he didn't last a year.

They certainly have an excellent foundation there, including a great midfield. Let's see how it goes. Klinnsmann was also supposed to be a messiah there and that didn't work.

Hopefully Guardiola will begin with what he has; a strong midfield that attacks very well down the wings and is strong in the middle as well. And not try to immediately make changes or force tika-taka on them. We'll also see who he attracts/brings in over time and what longer term changes he makes.

PS - I wonder if they will "rob" Dortmund in the next few years. Goetze (or is he bound for Spain/England?), Hummels, perhaps Reus, ...

I like them as much as many do, but they have a way to go yet. They don't quite have the talent that Barcelona does nor do they have the heart that Dortmund has. They need both of these to win the tournament. They tend to lose their nerve when they need it most, Dortmund doesn't lose their nerve. They just get grittier.
