Court grants Indiana employer relief from contraceptives mandate

(Reuters) - An Indiana company has won temporary court relief from having to provide its employees with coverage for contraceptives and other birth-control procedures, as mandated under the 2010 healthcare overhaul.

By a 2-1 vote, a panel of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago issued an injunction pending appeal in favor of the Grote family, whose Grote Industries makes vehicle safety systems and has more than 1,100 full-time workers.

Members of the Grote family are Catholic, and opposed including coverage for various contraception and sterilization procedures in a group health insurance plan for their privately-held company, which is based in Madison, Indiana.

Anyone want to bet Wal-Mart gets religion real quick once they hear about this?

How is he dictating? Its his company. Why dont all the liberals start a fund to provide affordable birth control on demand to women who need it? Or do they just want to dictate their secular humanist beliefs onto employers. The Occupy Wall Street spoiled brats who use their ipads to complain about the "rich" people who created jobs for 1100. I hear Al Gore is getting a 100 million in Arab oil money - he could cover fee birth care for years - or is he a rich spoiled zealot...? Yup

I support an employer's freedom OF religion, provided that it doesn't infringe on an employee's freedom FROM religion.

How did Grote Industries manage to get court's relief but Hobby Lobby couldn't?

How can an employers' religion dictate what is in your insurance policy? Can our employers now tell us what cancer treatments we can get, if we can get a blood transfusion, and what about the religions that condemn any medical procedures and believe in letting the dying die because it is God's will? This is absolutely absurd.

Scientologist's don't believe in any use of medical drugs including aspirin. Jehovah's Witnesses don't allow their members to have blood transfusions.

If the court opens up this Pandora's box where does it end? What forms of essential healthcare coverage can be denied to workers because of their employers wishes?

So can any company deny their employees coverage of medication proven to help people live healthier and safer lives under "freedom of religion"? I think if you take government assistance to build or maintain your company you should have to follow the law regarding health for your employes. You cant want help from the government and then pretend that you dont have to listen to the government when you dont like it.

Poor news reporting...what was the reasoning for the judges ruling?

but they are fine with paying for unwanted child births out of wed lock. heres a thought, just pay employees what you pay for health care and let them pay for it if they want. then it has nothing to do with you. unless this is about saving money, which it is.
