Cook brushes off worries about iPad cannibalization, says PC market is in much bigger trouble

Apple CEO Cook iPadApple CEO Tim Cook With iPad mini

No, Apple (AAPL) CEO Tim Cook isn’t overly worried that smaller tablets, including his own company’s iPad mini, are cannibalizing sales of the traditional 9.7 -inch iPad. In fact, Cook says that he’s glad Apple has remained at the forefront of the tablet market and that lower overall tablet market share for the larger iPad is inevitable.

“If we don’t cannibalize it, someone else will,” Cook said of concerns that the iPad mini is eating into the traditional iPad’s sales.

And besides, Cook noted, the 9.7-inch iPad isn’t the device with the most to lose from the advent of 7-inch and 8-inch tablets since traditional PC sales stand to take an even bigger hit in the coming years.

“There’s a lot more of the PC market to cannibalize,” Cook said.

Really? Companies for security purposes don't allow personal devices on their networks. Not to mention the PC can do far more for less money. Then of course there is the OSHA factor of the devices not being ergonomically friendly. Oh, and then there is the flop that Windows 8 currently is as far as adoption and migration goes. For long term use people still prefer the mouse and keyboard, even if a tablet is glitzy.

What they wont say. Traditional PC's will take a hit because successors to the Surface Pro tablet will be replacing PC's soon. Check out Forbes and read the article "Surface Pro Can Run Diablo III, Portal 2, Other AAA Games - Why Isn't Microsoft Evangelizing This?" by Jason Evangelho. He does pretty extensive coverage of the Pro as he seems to be one of the few writers with one.

      From personal experience:
The good, I will say this thing rocks as a portable gaming machine. Low-Med settings for Sims 3 is the worst experience I have had, everything else has been able to run med settings or better. Photoshop and adobe flash professional both run great. The battery can keep me playing games for 4 hours without problems and I could get a bit more, though I have brightness set to about 45%. The Wacom pen blows my mind, so much fun to be able to draw so easily(I feel like a little kid).
The bad, I still hate Metro. The windows button is a touch button that is on the bottom of the device below the screen, just rub over it with my thumb and I sometimes get taken back to the metro screen (I will be going on exploration/adventure of the device soon to find out if I can disable this).
The ugly. When playing older games instead of using the full screen the older games will black out most of the screen then play in a small 4x4 inch section of the screen. It looks terrible and makes playing the games that much more awkward.

PC are dying becasue older PCs run just fine with newer software application programs. 15 years ago, you had to upgrade your PC to be fast enough to run the latest stuff.
