NY Cardinal Dolan: Electing pope all new to him

NEW YORK (AP) — New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan says electing a new pope is all new to him since he's still learning what it means to be archbishop.

At a news conference Monday, Dolan quipped he was "still writing thank-you notes from when I was made a cardinal" last year.

He was responding to questions about Pope Benedict XVI's announcement that he would resign Feb. 28 because he's simply too infirm to carry on. He would be the first pontiff to do so in nearly 600 years.

As cardinal, Dolan would be part of the College of Cardinals electing a new pope.

In replying to questions, he said it would be "highly improbable" for him to be considered for the papacy. But joking with a reporter, he asked, "Is that why you're kneeling?"

You know how they say that every elected politician from dog-catcher on up thinks about running for President of the United States?
In the same vein, every priest above the parish level probably thinks about what he'd have to do to become Pope.
I don't know what Dolan's chances are, but you can bet he's wondering about that himself--who to talk to, what sort of horse-trading his brother cardinals might want for their votes, etc.

Dolan needs a few charms, and costume jewelry stones on his beanie. Perhaps a pair of sequined panty hose just to establish that "rich' look!?

They elect somebody to be "infallable". Stange, but not as strange as the 1st Council of Nicea in 320 AD where they VOTED on what would be in and out of the newly created Bible. The VOTE had to be OK'd by Emperor Constantine. The reult---a Bible drastically different that what pre-existed and an amalgum of various ideas about what was and was not saleable to the masses and yet not harmful to the dictator/Emperor.

If I believed God was a guy in the sky I wouldn't be a Christian. No one believes that garbage, it's as ridiculous as believing hell is a place that bad people go to.

They're all kid f..v..k..r...s anyway. They should dismantle the entire Vatican, brick by brick, sell it at auction, and give the proceeds to the children their priests raped and its cardinals, bishops, and pontiffs covered for, and then we'll call it even.

Dolan is cool and funny, he would be great to have some humor in Vatican City ! The place is beautiful but smells like pine!

Don't worry Timothy, when you get to the Vatican you will be met by a robot with a complete set of robotic instructions that you can program right into your robotic mind. However, there may be some difficulty with the instructions for control of your big mouth. Good luck.

    • I never thought Ronaldo would get so many goals: Ferguson

MADRID (Reuters) - Cristiano Ronaldo's Real Madrid displays have come as something of a surprise to former boss Alex Ferguson who described his form as "phenomenal" on the eve of Manchester United's Champions League tie at Real Madrid. Portugal forward Ronaldo, sold by United for a world record fee of 94 million euros ($126.57 million) in 2009, faces his old club for the first time in Wednesday's last-16 first leg tie. "Ronaldo is a better player than when he left us because of his maturity," Ferguson told a news conference at Real's Bernabeu stadium on Tuesday. ...

    • Jon Stewart Knows Why the Pope Quit

The new year has not been kind to Catholic institutions. In mid-January, Notre Dame's star linebacker Manti Te'o was caught dating and eulogizing a fictitious girlfriend, a scandal that trapped the Catholic university in a non-stop media circus — and began an endless Jon Stewart joke. And yesterday, the Pope, considered infallible by the world's 1.2 billion practicing Catholics, announced he was resigning at the end of February — the first papal resignation in nearly six centuries. ...
