Career Focus IV is now underway!

CAMC is pleased to announce the Career Focus Wage Subsidy program is now accepting new participants!  The Career Focus project is a great way for employers to hire new post-secondary graduates and receive funding of up to 1/3 of their first year’s salary, to a maximum of $12,500!!

There are a limited number of spaces available!  Call soon and submit your new hire to the program!

Part of CAMC’s mandate is to champion and encourage initiatives to develop the overall strength and economic well being of the industry. With that goal in mind, CAMC coordinates the Career Focus Program to facilitate the placement of new workers in the aviation industry.

By subsidizing up to one-third of a new employee’s wage for the first year of employment, the Career Focus Program encourages the hiring of post-secondary candidates who may not otherwise have the opportunity to work in the sector due to temporary slowdowns in new hires as a cost-saving measure.

What is the Career Focus Project?

CAMC’s Career Focus Project provides wage-subsidy funding for employers in the aviation maintenance and aerospace manufacturing industry to hire post-secondary graduates. Employers can receive a wage subsidy of up to $12,500 per employee, representing one third of the total wage (i.e. the employer pays $2 for every $1 received). The period of benefit is a minimum of four months to a maximum of 12 months.

This is a federally funded program (under Human Resource and Social Development Canada) in which CAMC participates as the “recipient sponsor” for all aviation- and aerospace-related companies. As recipient sponsor, CAMC manages and administers the project, assesses employers and participants, signs agreements with employers, and is responsible for overall financial management.

Objectives

The objectives of the Career Focus Project are to:

  • to increase the supply of highly qualified people;
  • to facilitate the transition of highly skilled young people to a rapidly changing labour market.

Potential Interns

To be eligible for the Career Focus Project, potential participants:

  • Must be a Canadian Citizen, a permanent resident, or a person
    who has been granted refugee status in Canada
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Cannot receive employment insurance benefits during their participation in the program
  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age

Potential Employers

Potential employers are required to:

  • inform potential participant of what participation in the program would entail, and retain agreement from participants;
  • use non-subjective eligibility criteria to establish eligibility of participant (based on the criteria listed above);
  • provide participant an opportunity for full-time work (i.e. at least 30 hours per week) for a minimum of 4 months;
  • provide proof of employment, start date, contract with participant, full wage and benefits of participant, and a participant learning plan to the recipient sponsor;
  • have a nepotism policy in place regarding participants;
  • provide data to recipient sponsor as required.

The process is simple: send details of your new hire to CAMC for eligibility assessment; upon approval, send regular proof of payment (the pay stub) to CAMC; and each month receive a cheque for one third of the wage.
