CAMC Accreditation Board

The CAMC Accreditation Board is an independent, arms-length body comprising representatives from the aviation and aerospace sector. It acts in matters concerning National Training Standards for the delivery of Instructor Guides/Curricula and the assessment of Training Organizations, Company Training Departments or Training Providers who deliver CAMC-accredited Programs. Board Members provide advice and assist CAMC with the establishment, management and administration of a system to accredit training programs. Accreditation ensures that aviation and aerospace programs delivered by training organizations are of high quality and continue to meet industry needs. The Accreditation Board also acts as an appeals body, responsible for reviewing decisions of the CAMC Accreditation & Quality Assurance Leader with regards to granting and withdrawal of accreditation.

The CAMC Accreditation Board’s members represent corporate, labour, military and education stakeholders. Organizations represented include:

  • ACTS
  • Department of National Defence (DND)
  • Bernie Aviation
  • Bombardier Aerospace Training Centre
  • British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), School of Transportation
  • Centennial College
  • École nationale d’aérotechnique (Collège Édouard-Montpetit)
  • Eurocopter Canada Ltd.
  • First Air
  • International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers (IAMAW)
  • Standard Aero Ltd.

The Accreditation Board is supported in its work by other CAMC boards and committees, including the National Standing Trade Advisory Committees (NSTACs) that work to ensure that the technical standards and publications used to support the delivery of accredited training programs continue to reflect industry needs and practices.

The Certification Board reports to and receives direction from CAMC’s Director of Standards & Development, through the Professional Standards Leader, who is also the Board Chairperson. She leads this important board and co-ordinates all technical and administrative matters related to the certification system.

The following organizations are currently represented on the committees:

  • Aveos
  • Cascade Aerospace
  • Department of National Defence (DND)

CAMC National Standing Trade Advisory Committees

National Standing Trade Advisory Committees (NSTACs) write and update the text of the National Occupational Standards (OSs), logbooks and curricula for selected occupations in the aviation and aerospace industry. NSTACs also provide advice on the use and validity of these publications to ensure that they continue to meet the requirements of the aviation and aerospace industry. The documents are published by CAMC in both of Canada’s official languages but the content is provided by industry representatives through the NSTACs.

CAMC currently facilitates 11 NSTACs, in total comprising 64 industry professionals and subject-matter experts. In all, 34 corporations, and labour, military, government and training organizations have representation on NSTACs. Each committee, using member expertise with emerging or obsolete technology and processes, advises CAMC on how to amend and update the OSs. The Occupational Standards are the template for the accompanying logbooks and curricula, which together allow the certification of technicians and the accreditation of training programs.

The following occupations have an associated NSTAC committee:

  • Aircraft Gas Turbine Repair and Overhaul Technician
  • Aircraft Interior Technician
  • Aircraft Maintenance Technician
  • Aircraft Structures Technician
  • Aircraft Non-Destructive Inspection Technician
  • Aviation Machinist
  • Aviation Maintenance Inspector
  • Aviation Mechanical Component Technician
  • Aviation Painter
  • Aviation Welding Technician
  • Avionics Maintenance Technician

Committee membership is open to CAMC members who have significant experience in one of the above-noted occupations.
