Minecraft Xbox 360 update 8 gets full changelog - 4J "hoping" for January release

Over 40 fixes detailed

This is a heroic after-hours news update to let you know that Minecraft Xbox 360 update 8 now has a changelog, detailing over 40 fixes.

On the release date front, 4J offers the following via Twitter: "we're hoping it's this month, but we need to wait and see how it does in Cert Testing." Fingers crossed.

And with that, I disappear backwards into the velvet darkness of night, leaving the world with naught but the silvery echo of my mocking laugh.

Update - the patch now has a release day and date: Wednesday 30th January. The fix list is below.

- Fix for random crash on Kick Player.

- Fix for a random crash on loading the tutorial.

- Fix for freeze when writing on a sign as an autosave starts.

- Fix for crash when attempting to enter an online enabled game session after losing connection to the Xbox LIVE service.

- Performance improvement for the Enchantment interface.

- Fix to display a message when monsters are nearby on trying to sleep in a bed.

- Fix for an issue causing blocks to reappear after being destroyed when the server is busy.

- Fix for Experience Orbs being invisible for a period of time when created.

- Fix to force a Nether Fortress, Blaze Spawner and Nether Wart to always be present in the Nether for a newly created world.

- Fix for autosave not working when the host has gone into an idle state.

- Fix to increase the spawn rate for Mooshrooms.

- Change to make Blazes drop Glowstone Dust as well as Blaze Rods.

- Fix to player experience level display in two player vertical splitscreen mode.

- Fix for Quick Move not being possible while holding something in the cursor.

- Fix for armor position on Bad Santa when sat down.

- Changed "Download Content" menu to "Minecraft Store".

- New photo frames for avatar items in the Minecraft Store.

- Fix for Magma Cube hit boxes.

- Added an Awkward Potion to the Potions page in the Creative Menu.

- Fix to show the aura of enchanted items for other players in an online game.

- Fix for tools enchanted with Unbreaking occasionally repairing themselves.

- Changes to improve breeding - Love Mode status is now network synchronised, and animals react more correctly if spawn limits are reached when breeding.

- Fix for issue with "Take Half" in the Brewing Stand interface.

- Fix to allow the map to be displayed when the player has turned off Display Hand.

- Fix for potion effects being removed after using the Nether Portal.

- Fix to stop the item in hand being changed when traveling to/from the Nether.

- Fix for Compass not pointing to the original spawn point after having been in The Nether.

- Fix to allow players to be able to eat food even if they are not allowed to build and mine.

- Fix to allow client players to toggle Custom Skin Animation.

- Fix for player gamertag border color being wrong after a respawn/dimension change.

- Fix for issue in splitscreen where it was possible to craft items without a player having the resources required.

- Fix to remove the Love Mode tooltip when animals are unable to enter Love Mode.

- Change to moderator option description in the Host and Player Options.

- Fix for the submerged edge of the world emitting a faint light.

- Fix for lighting issue with mobs in water.

- Fix to stop food being removed when feeding animals in Creative Mode.

- Fix to stop Bones being removed when taming wolves in Creative Mode.

- Change to make baby wolves tame when born.

- Fix for Blaze Rods not being identified as fuel for a furnace.

- Fix for issue with sky lighting values making bedrock layer fully lit.

  1. Thought the wait would be because of cert. testing.Plus they will be lucky to get it to us this month,they only have three days,lol.Been afflicted by a few bugs in the list though so it's all good.Come on MS get your finger out.

  2. Man.. I hate having to make a new world every time they release a new patch, it becomes such a buzzkill when you have to do EVERYTHING fifty billion times over... :(

  3. Why don't they just bring minecraft up to date with the pc version? Doesn't it cost huge amounts of money to update a game on xbox, especially for an indie developer. They seem to be quite frivolous with their money.

    It does normally but Microsoft are letting them do it for free I think.

    In addition to what FishyGinger says it's literally not as simple as just bringing it up to date either. The 360 version is done by 4J with help from Mojang, and 4J started working on the 360 version well before many of the updates seen in the PC version. Also, the PC version is coded in Java, while the Xbox version is... well, I don't think they've said specifically but I'd assume sort of it's own engine that may use some of the base code, but isn't exactly the same so the PC stuff has to be 'converted' to the Xbox format, which includes stuff like taking into consideration the hardware limitations of the 360. In theory 4J could just hold back their updates and then do one big one, but we'd all be waiting literally ages for it - and then 4J have said they want to eventually divert away from the PC version to do specific 360 version updates. So they've decided it's better to do frequent, incremental updates than one massive one which could take an extraordinary amount of time, even taking into account the speed they've updated the game to the point they have so far.

    Yep it's def. the update exp. orbs make a noise now when you collect them.So they did get it out in Jan. :D

  9. netherwart still not there AFTER this patch. i tried a new world, not there. checked internet, others agree. after to-ing and fro-ing it seems it can be there but only as randomly as before. i have set up 3 brand new worlds and no netherwart in either of them.

    **update** tried again, got a fully formed fortress this time, the extra rooms are there with netherwart. Finally!
