Once you realize that this version of Dante is modeled after Tameem Antoniades, Ninja theories creative director, the game itself really depreciates in value. On that note, the combat is so slow... (30fps). Not sure why Capcom told NT to change Dante's looks or make the combat system less than 60fps but changes of this caliber are what we get when you give a good series (that originated in Japan most likely) and give it to a Western company... (Silent Hill anyone?)

I just dont get the hate and the backlash, DMC 2 was crap, 3 was overrated and 4 was a step back. It wasn't like the series was that great to begin with, except the first DMC which was a new thing back then. I have yet to play this though.

Still haven't played it yet but it looks like Devil May Cry to me. I might pick it up when its like 20$, but I was done with the games after 4 (wasent a big fan of the new guy but still an ok game). While I don't mind the new approach or even Dante's new look, I still don't understand why this game needed a reboot. So what if the original games where a childish and the story was a confusing mess, that was the appeal and charm of the game. Sometimes I just want to play a game and nuts to the story, whatever gets me from point A to point B, and its a non-stop barrage of action, that's all I care about. Why cant Dante just spit out one liners and make bad jokes, that's what made him awesome. He was a crazy action character for a crazy action game, no more no less. This is the same thing that has been happening in movies as of late, otherwise known as the dark and gritty remake. Dante is now dark and tortured dealing with personal hardship over the death of someone or over some great secret or whatever. Its not that I don't want a good story in my games or great characters to latch onto, I just don't feel like every game needs that to be great. Anyway I will play this when I get the chance but for now I will wait.

The combat itself is pretty average. What pulls it down is the fact that there's no way to aim your attacks, and that's a pretty big deal considering there's a lot of focus on pulling weak enemies to you and pulling yourself towards stronger enemies. Then there are color coded enemies that can only be hurt by certain weapons, limiting your combo options. Oh, and there's a shitton of bugs too(enemies that freeze in place, enemies that won't spawn, bosses become unkillable and the infamous flying glitch).

How to make a bad game look fine. A guide in three steps by Ninja Theory and Bioware:
1.Make a bad game
2.Make a feature even worse, and stir controversie around it
3.Blame any valid criticism in people angry about point 2

The guy that made this review should be Ashamed of himself. Its clear that he is either bought. OR should never be trusted to review anything ever again and should be sent away from ever being near a game review job.

The story is trash on the level of fanfiction and the characters insipid.

The combos are shallow and pointless due to a Style system that is based on damage. And the Color coded enemies make it impossible to do cool combos later on. Its some of the laziest core game mechanics like that dragging the whole game down.

They basically reused the Heavnly sword combat system with some upgrades. And that system was OK years ago. But is horrible now and it shows.

The ONLY Good part of this game is the levels LOOKS. Not the design, that was boring actually, the visuals are the only good part about this game.

I have never heard of this game until the pre-launch previews from Gameinformer.  I decided to pick up the game.  After playing it, it's a good game.  For my opinion, this game doesn't lack any action.  The game requires a lot of finger action to execute the large combos that this game entails.  I am not use to it.  The story is written well and engaging.  I haven't completed the game yet but it makes you want to.  I don't understand want the game is lacking from the people that played the prior game. The people put too much enfacious for the old game being better.  I think the score should have been better.  It's a good game.

The fast past, ass kicking, stylistic gameplay is intact, and even ARGUABLE better then in previous games. THAT IS WHAT MATTERS!!! Not the fact that he looks different, or you don't like the story. Which i do. The difficulty level for the hardcore DMC fan, like myself,  is ABSOLUTELY intact as well. For crying out loud haters, they give you 7 difficulty levels to chose from. If your playing on HELL and HELL and saying it is to easy, your an F!%# liar liar and i hope your pants catch FIRE!!!

You lower the PS3 score for being having issues, but you don't give the PC version higher than 360 version even though the PC Version runs smoother and looks better than the 360 version. Infact when I watched the comparison video there was less of a difference between the 360 vs PS3 than the PC version vs 360 version.

The arguments seem rather generational.  This game definitely markets to the current generation of kids.  The "don't call me emo, emo kids."   Same with FF13.  And that's okay.  Of course this is all generality and plenty of room for exceptions. Things change,  But I think many of these devs and publishers are going to lose out financially if they totally ignore the sensibilities and taste of more seasoned gamers.

I adored every single DMC game (except 2 fuk that...) and i can't say i didn't swallow :) some sadness when i saw the new look. It looks interesting if there's any way to describe what looks like came out of an LSD addicts brain (I'm looking at you ninja theory) so as an open-minded gamer I'll give it a try. From what i hear the combat system is supposedly improved but the game has no lock-on system or taunts, boss fights are formulaic and the combat ranking is based on solely dmg? Now im definetly interested in what way is it improved with those things being removed? The story is better than the as stated B-rated movie feel of the old ones however dmc 3 had a great story and great moments though i wont argue that 1,4 and ugh... 2 are crap story tellers though that was never DMC strong suit to begin with anyway... It had an amazing feel, like castlevania and it's setting. It's understandable the amount of hate for the new direction (what if castlevania started to look like this?!).I couldn't give a damn about the graphics but the one thing i have the most issues with is boss battles looking more like god of war than dmc... Who remembers Nelo Angelo, Vergil and even Credo Angelo boss fights as probably their most treasured memories from DMC and then saw these hit-and-run-of-the-mill Boss battles... Either way i'm interested in what direction will the game move forward from this. I can accept this game as a pilot episode of a show that drags it's feet at the begining and later becomes the new Friends...

Not a fan of Devil May Cry but I can see why everyone is mad about the kid replacing the original Dante lol! Cap-com doesn't understand that if its not broke don't fix it.

Defy_The_Fallen
Defy_The_Fallen

@skullomania2 Capcom didn't make the game, just endorsed it and had slight creative control! It was Ninja Theory, a British studio who were allowed to put there own spin on the series. It's in no way effecting the original series since it's a re-imagining, so people upset about it are stupid for not just disregarding it and waiting for a new entry in the mainline series of DmC games.

Just finished it on Nephilim last night, which was a joke in terms of difficulty. Overall, it's a great game with some issues.

DMC3 is still the best version to me, though.

One thing that could possibly be tweaked is how quickly you rank up with style points. It is very easy to get and maintain an 'S' rank or above. Plus, the story is rather short. Other than that, the changes NT made to the story weren't that bad at all, just different. I can see a lot of influence from Heavenly Sword, as well.

Overall, I still really enjoyed this game.

The real issue I have (now that I have played the game) is past Dante's look but how bad the characters just are.. Dante's brash attitude was fun just like in the old game but all he kept doing was spitting progressively worse one liners    (close to duke nuk'em forever bad) and swear words. Virgil plays little to no role other then we are related and why does he not know me. The worst was Kat who was just put there to be abused constantly. This coming from a game where the women have been strong characters all their own and didn't just take what Dante did she is the weakest character to date.

I had high hopes for ninja theory on just the storyline after enslaved and what I got was the same kind of boring story I get from any run of the mill triple AAA game.

The game is good doesn't mean you have to like the new Dante. I'm not buying it because I don't like this Dante, but at the same time  I'm not going to call the game bad when it is clearly a good game. DMC 4 is what screwed up the original series but no one complained about that... So why are you guys here now you should have done your complaining years ago, but instead you took it because it had Dante in it... This is why I separated myself from people like that, because you guys have no logic behind your reasoning, your just mindless Dante fanboys. Just admit this game is good and move on just like I already did... The old DMC ended at 4... So just move on...

Kabbalistica
Kabbalistica

@shadow655Just because you admitted to yourself that you like this game doesn't mean that anybody else has to. Awful controls, awful reaction times, awful lighting and garbage physics are the real complaints about this game. Sending an enemy airborne looks "animated" and not like there is actual physics calculating the height, velocity, hang time at the peak, etc.

I don't care at all about the look of Dante or the story. I liked the new look...

The haters hate it because it's NOT a DMC. The High Time input has been removed and put onto ONE BUTTON. They changed one of the coolest moves to pull off in gaming history. Every new DMC that released, the first thing I wanted to do was to see how the HIGH TIME felt. Needless to say, after this crappy Ninja Theory game I was like, "WTF?"

Ninja Theory sucks.

Actually just saw the ending of DMC and it actually has a pretty awesome story also it seems like Dante matures into the Dante we know and love! Still not getting the game but next game I can see myself getting into too!

Wish Hitman would have taken this kind of direction in franchise iteration. A glorious attempt at change resulting in a fresh experience yet the meat and core of the sole Devil May Cry series remain. Hitman badly needed this more.
