This feature will give some basic information about the many characters that appeared during the Age of Apocalypse crossover. More detailed information will be in the glossary section, but only the major x-related characters will receive an entry.
The next page, entitled Who’s Who is just a list of all characters that appeared, if needed with their counterpart name. It also mentions who are without counterpart, and what characters were not seen during the crossover.
Sunfire “ Since Professor X didn’t form the X-Men in this universe, the control he taught his students isn’t there. Instead, the control was replaced with an all-out, push-yourself-to-the-limit training from Magneto. Sunfire is the ultimate reflection of that training. He pushed himself so hard that he burnt his flesh away, and all that is left is the fire that is held together with this containment suit.“ (Joe Madureira, artist)
Who’s with Who, the second part of this feature, shows the membership of each team. Just like in the Character Glossary, the Shi’Ar Imperial Guard, the Starjammers and the Inhumans are not mentioned, since their memberships are essentially the same as in the main Marvel Universe. For those interested, the Imperial Guard appeared in Gambit and the X-ternals, the Starjammers too, though also in Tales of the Age of Apocalypse #2 and the Inhumans were seen completely under Maximus‘ influence in Tales of the Age of Apocalypse #1.
Beast “ In the time-flip reality, Beast’s mutation has gone even further. While he is still a genius, he is much more ferocious and I tried to reflect that in his costume. Because he is Sinister’s chief scientist, I gave him the armored pants like Sinister wears.“ (Steve Epting, artist)
Like on this intro page, you’ll find more comparative art shots of some selected few characters who look rather different. In every case the AoA version is on the left side, and the main Marvel concept on the right. The artist notes are taken from the AoA Collector‘s Preview.
