Sony inviting gamers to 'see the future' February 20

Sony is inviting gamers to "see the future" next month. The PlayStation maker has released a 45-second teaser video (embedded below) suggesting the company will make a significant announcement on February 20 at 6 p.m. EDT. The "PlayStation Meeting" will be taking place in New York, according to an invite sent to GameSpot by Sony.
The teaser video does not share any concrete information as to what may be divulged at the event. A previous report suggested Sony would hold an Apple-style press event in March to unveil the PlayStation 4. It is not clear if this is the same event.
Analyst consensus is that the PS4, along with the Xbox 720, will be announced in the coming months and released during the back half of this year.
Speculation about the PS4 has run rampant. Previous and unconfirmed reports suggest the system may block, or in some way inhibit, users from playing secondhand games. Still other speculation suggests the console will introduce a new controller that could feature a rear touchpad and a Share button.

waiting makes no sense, MicroBRIBE will just bribe the industry as they do with everything on the planet. So Sony has nothing to lose by announcing and releasing their system first.
I don't know whether I'm ready for the PS4 yet. I'm kind of hoping it will get released next year, maybe March time. That way, we'll be able to get the most out of the PS3 games being released this year. I would hope for backwards compatibility but with the rumoured specifications for the next PlayStation being AMD-based as opposed to Nvidia, it's highly unlikely..
I hope its something like a new controller, I'm not ready for the PS4 yet, having just FINALLY obtained a PS3 barely a year ago... :/

I wouldnt worry, as im sure Sony will contineu to support the PS3 for quite a while, especially if the PS2 lifespan is anything to go by.
@Spritekzk or you could wait until the game goes platinum, i know its not the same thing but its close enough lol
This makes it sound like after all Sony will unveil their PS4 before the next Xbox... Interesting
I'm hearing Ultra-HD blu ray for the PS4, that will mean having to purchase an Ultra-HD TV capable for resolutions higher than 1080p. That's not going to be cheap.

We didnt have to buy an hdtv this gen to play on the ps3, so even if the ps4 is capable of going higher than 1080p it can surely go under.
At least it's what im hoping for lol

Im simply gonna wait to see what both MS & Sony pull out of their respective 'Hats' before chosing my next platform (as always).
If niether hit the mark (Ads, Intrusion, Monitoring, pre owned game restrictions, etc), then its back to PC for me.
Although currently owning a 360, i gotta say i adore both Sony & MS platforms, its just that i feel that the Landscape of 'Gaming' is dramatically different from what it once was.

After doing some thinking, it's either going to be for the PS4 or for Vita Slim. Doesn't make sense for anything else if it's being directed at gamers.
It would be nice if they release the PS4 on Sep 17 with GTA V as launching title. That would kill Xbox launch.
@ClaudiusCaesar If it's a launch title for the PS4, it will be a launch title for the Next Xbox as well.
So, are Sony going to quit and leave MS to clean up? because thats the future i forsee....

@Devils-DIVISION @digi-demon Although I do agree with you for the most part Devils-DIVISION remember that Sony are having a bad time of things of late what with their TV's not selling and PS3 not doing as well as they had hoped. Vita is expensive to make and not doing so well either.
They don't have lots of money. They are in big debt. Only a few months ago we had a report about Sony and Panasonics stock being called 'Junk'.
That's actually quiet serious!
I do like Sony and M$ but I fear for Sony at the minute.
What fanboys don't seem to understand is that we need both M$ and Sony in the business. Imagine what the consequences of Sony going under would mean? Not good if you think about it.

so what happened to 'we're not interested in going first! Who wants to go first anyways. it just let the competiors see your specs and make something better.' And yet they reveal thier's first!
@anik786 They might have meant between them and M$. Let's be honest.. nintendo doesn't really have any competitors but it's always M$ vs Sony so quite often they don't really count Nintendo because even thought it holds a large amount of the peoples interest it doesn't really fit in with the Sony vs M$ even if it's first.

@anik786 For starters, they're not the first. Secondly, if they're ready to reveal it then they're ready to reveal it. No point keeping the thing under wraps longer than they need to.

By coming out before Christmas many people will enjoy them during the holidays and do some long-anticipated gaming. Too bad I won' t be one of them... :(

The Vita is pretty nice, but so far the rear touch pad has mostly been a gimmick. I've played a few games that use it now, but it hasn't added anything to the gameplay. I think the fact that you can't easily tell where your finger is on the back is making developers hesitant to do much with it.

I have already been waiting for these consoles...gonna be so happy to have each of them (PS4 and the new XBOX)... although I play mostly on my PC, I'm still not gonna let exclusives pass by:)
@Metallicwolf29 Backwards compatible with the PS2 probably - now no-one uses it there is no worry of stealing PS4 sales (much like they did with PS3's and the PS1 back compat feature) :P
Even better if it could play the superior X360 ports of multi-plat back catalog of last gen games LOL.

Sweet, maybe the PS4 wont suck. God knows without the Playstation Plus service that the PS3 is useless.
@VenkmanPHD How is the PS3 useless? It had a lot of fun games. God of War, MGS4, Killzone, Resistance, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Demon's Souls, Infamous, and a bunch of other games I don't even remember.
@VenkmanPHD Yes all of the exclusives suck from Sony (God of War, Uncharted,Killzone, Last of Us, Ni No Kuni, ............) Please shut up. Both Systems have very good exclusives. Lets just hope both systems are amazing and maybe have cross platform gaming that would be nice.
Except for microsoft there exclusives suck. All they got thats worth playing is halo, and gears.
@VenkmanPHD I don't have PS+ and I don't really mind altough I would mind if I couldn't play online on XBox360. So, isn't it the other way around?

I'm really happy they didn't go belly-up and quit after the PS3. Hopefully they learned from that, pretty excited to see what the next-gen consoles are gonna be about.

@AP3Xoblivion Wth are you talking about, the PS3 has now outsold the 360 worldwide even though it launched 1 year later at much higher pricing.

@Daian @AP3Xoblivion I believe he is referring to the bankruptcy that the whole company of Sony was nearly in. While that may have not been because of their gaming division, they were close to going out of business, may still if the ps4 goes badly, and it seems like the 720 is going to come out swinging.
