43 Seedings, Cuttings, Spread-the-Word
In a context of perseverance we utilise intensity.

Trigrams : perseverance (bottom), intensity (top) : with/from perseverance comes intensity. [lake over heaven]

The mud from which 43 has emerged is best described by analogy to the under-stated qualities of hexagram 44, persuading, seducing.

Commentary :

Cooperative format : Hexagram 43 is a long way from the use of tradition. We need to see inside ourselves to get through this. This can generate what some see as resoluteness and others see as arrogance. This total self development needs to be balanced by opening up to others. This is accomplished by 'spreading the word', analogous to taking cuttings from a plant to use elsewhere.

Oppositional format : lake against light.

Template format : Expansive bonding in a context of expansive blending.

Five-Phase Relationships : The trigram of Heaven reflects Exchange (as opposition, competitive). The trigram of Lake reflects cooperative Exchange. Competitive Exchange through Cooperative Exchange is expressed as being robust, resolute in 'spreading the word' , in sowing seeds.

Goal of 43 - hexagram 28 (or 'how do I 28? - 43')

43 is the goal of 27 (or 'how do I 43? - 27' How do I be robust, intensely spreading the word? Through fostering a 'hunger' for something, a need to be 'filled')

Some PAIRINGS of hexagram 43 and other hexagrams:

The pairing of 01 and 43 reflect the subtle differences in expression of 'yangness' where the differentiating focus of 01, where we make the point of the totality of yangness, is complemented by the integrating focus of 43 where the emphasis is on 'spreading the word', sowing the seed, and doing that in a 'pushy' manner. Thus we have the integrating and differentiating examples of pure yang.
This pair deals with concepts we find in gardening where 23 reflects a focus on pruning, identifying the 'true' word, and 43 reflects a focus on seeding, 'spreading the word'.

At the LOCAL level, the hard core, sharp focus on 'spreading the word' is reflected in a more balanced format by the more 'subtle' focus on holding firm to traditions, a generally integrating nature in 26. ( I say general in that, when we zoom-in further to pairs so 11, 26 form a pair with 11 being integrating, 26 more differentiating).

The overall focus in this pairing is on being 'persuasive', be it through the 'spreading of the word' of 43 or the more seductive methods of 44.

43 : draw attention - through spread the word; 43 spread the word comes from a context described by hexagram 44 - persuade, seduce, put the word

44 : draw attention - through put the word; 44 put the word, persuade, comes from a context described by hexagram 43 - spread the word

In this pairing the characteristics of 22 reflect selling through packaging whereas for 43 the focus is more on selling through use of the 'gab'.
A combination of singlemindedness (01) and being persuasive/seductive (44) is expressed in the need to 'spread the word' reflected by hexagram 43.
There is excess in both of these hexagrams, be it in the 'missionary zeal' of spreading the word (42) or in the preparedness to go beyond the norm to achieve/establish something (28).
