62 Portraying, Exaggerating, Acting
In a context of self-restraint we utilise (sudden) awareness.

The mud from which 62 has emerged is best described by analogy to the under-stated qualities of hexagram 30 - guiding, direction-setting (an ideology)

Commentary :

Cooperative format : In hexagram 62 an emphasis on detail and over exaggerated conduct is sometimes required by those in positions of influence to help maintain traditional perspectives. This emphasis helps to maintain the 'ideal' in the eyes of the people. However, these behaviours can be used to hide a weak individual in that they work as a facade and can be used as an excuse for delays in decision making.

In the image, moderation, respect, and mourning are usually acts manifesting a level of restraint. In this situation this behaviour is 'hammed up' (a context of guidance and trickery).

Oppositional Format : Hexagram 62 reflects the battle of ideologies, of traditions.

Structural Relationship (Being) : Hexagram 62 is the opposite of hexagram 61 in that the exaggerations of 62 complement the inner sensitivity, the softening/yielding core of 61.

Temporal Relationship (Doing) : The goal of 62 is hexagram 54 (or 'how do I 54? - 62' - How do I expend energy? exaggerate traditions etc)

Five-Phase Relationships : The trigram of Mountain reflects Filtration (through discernment). The trigram of Thunder reflects raw Production. The overall focus is on the exaggeration of something 'little' or 'raw' (a little point) as being important (of qualitative value).

62 is the goal of 55 (or 'how do I 62? - 55' How do I exaggerate traditions? Focus on diversity, on abundance and so 'overflow' with prose)

This pairing reflects an overall focus on issues of establishing and maintaining loyalty, be it in maintaining loyalty in a distant land of many attractions (hexagram 56), or in the need to exaggerate the traditions of a collective to aid in maintaining the collective's structure (hexagram 62). The 'demand' for loyalty is unconditional in 62, conditional in 56.
At the LOCAL level we are dealing with an octet of hexagrams with the MOUNTAIN trigram as base. In this sequence hexagram 53, the focus upon slowly maturing, opposes hexagram 62, where the focus is on exaggerations, portraying. More so, the exaggerated sense of overplaying traditions to maintain the coherence of the collective is reflected in a more balanced format through the focus on, as well as recognising the consequences of, maturing.
Just as hexagram 03 reflects the 'birth' of something, so hexagram 62 focuses on re-birth through the exaggeration of traditions to aid in maintaining social structure, to give a collective a 'kick' to keep it going.
A combination of a focus on loyalty (56) with a focus upon guidance and a setting of a direction, an ideology, (30) is reflected in issues of maintaining the integrity of a collective through exaggeration of traditions.
