On the eve of Dead Space 3's release, we hang out with the game's producer John Calhoun to walk us through the recently released demo to get some behind the scenes insight, chat about microtransactions and more!
Absolutely loved Dead Space 1 & 2. I do hope that 3 will also be great, though I was hardly impressed by the demo.
dead space for me oh yes, enjoyed playing dead space one & two ,looking forward for dead dpace 3
The demo review was great, but I could hardly hear John speaking because the sound of the game was much loader.
Man, I thought the demo for this was fantastic! I loved the cliffhanger ending too. I can't wait for this. :)
I find myself not even particularly interested in renting this game. And I'm sure I'd actually have to buy it to play the coop (being an EA game). And microtransactions? Good lord...
next level Pseudo walkthrough:
After this demo you will have to open a door to some station (use the mastercard to bypass the door.)
Inside de station :
quicktime event1 : ABBBBBAC
quicktime event2 : B (wait ) (wait) B
Then you must get out. (Just run to to train that looks like an american express)
Done
Well, let's see, how to say this tactfully...Okay! Doom was the last good space-zombie game, and you'll notice it was also the first??
For the life of me I can't decide if I should buy this game or not. I mean I love Dead Space, but have the changes made this a simple action game with mutants and humans to shoot? And what of the blood? is there no blood spray in this game? Anyone know?
@fishforme2 "...Blood-splatter effects occur when characters incur damage, and some environments depict blood-splattered floors and mutilated bodies; enemies can be seen impaled, decapitated, and dismembered during the game."

There is blood in the game. Maybe it was just toned down for the demo?
@fishforme2 Not sure on that I would imagine so will have to wait and see. The guy was saying they took a lot of stuff out for the demo but I can't imagine blood would be one of them. Of course when your fighting outside it looks cold as hell so maybe blood freezes soon as you shoot someone? I'm sure it wouldn't in RL but this is a game afterall.
@Greyslay @fishforme2 There is plenty of blood in this video, for example at 2:40.
The demo had too many cutscenes with silly quicktime events and too many other people running around for it to feel scary or lonely. That's the only reason I would come to DS in the first place. The "Resident Evil effect" in action, clearly.
@Keeper_Artemus Uh...if you watched the video you would know that he said that the demo is not indicative of the live game because they created it to show you a little of dead space 3 without ruining the storyline. In other words....there wont be that many cutscenes back to back and if its like dead space 2 that means the quicktime events are scattered throughout the game not back to back.
I don't like the weapon crafting system cuz each weapon does not feel unique anymore, and this system requires universal ammo which ruins a lot of things about dead space.
I hate to say this and I can feel the flamers line up already but I was hoping for something a little different for DS.. I know its been done before but I was actually hoping for maybe a squad based tactical shooter set in the dead space universe. I know the plot isn't finished for isaac yet but its always good to throw in a curve ball among your fast balls to keep things fresh and interesting. Not to mention it would be a great way to say, "FU capcom this is how a real squad tactical shooter should be done in a survival horror shooter hybred!"
At last the first I think true game of the year.It looks very improved from Dead space 2 which in my opinion wasn't the Dead space it should have been. Now for this game I like what I've seen so far,the weapons feel right and heavy, the movement of Isaac looks very good, the environmental design is excellent ,especially the walk in the snow, the scenario we will have to see when I play the game to comment, but what I again don't like is that the enemies are the same in all three games which shows lack of imagination .Come guys all the planets have the same alien opponents, other than that the game should do well and hope it gets a good review at gamespot, which by the way it can get a low score from these guys that are capable of anything
One more thing how come isaac covers his face in the snow storm yet while your pointing your weapon he doesnt. And you forgot to show how isaac is able to roll in a space suit lol,try it guys double tap the run button in any direction.
Wow EA Dead Space has turned into a pure action game,i loved the first game but Dead Space 2 was extremely short with a cheap multiplayer now this.First Mass Effect now Dead Space you guys destroy great franchises.Cancelled my Pre order and got aliens colonial marines great job EA.
wow youre a whiney little bitch. back up your claim that dead space is a pure action game, how so?
Developers are concentrating more&more; on making the maximum posible amount of money that is starting to affect the quality of the games...i mean cmon what is with this microtransactions shit!?!If a games is free to play the yes but not if you have to pay a big amount of money to start with...jezzeee
May I ask why your "perfectionist" designers removed the damn blood decals?
"Dead Space won't go away from the Horror and gore, we don't want to piss off the fans"
Big surprise! EA Games lying again!

Wait, it isn't until chapter eight that they get to Tau Volantis? That's like eight hours into the game.
Good demo vid, i think it sum up most of my concerns.
Hmm main campaign with optional "side kick"... lets see how it will work out.
