The varsity eight performance made all the difference for Virginia, putting them up to a team score of 87 and earning the Cavs their second national championship. Michigan finished second at 82.

Saturday's performance by the Wolverines was enough to send both varsity eight boats to the Grand Finals on Sunday. Washington and Princeton's first varsity eight boats will also advance.

Virginia Athletics

All three boats advanced to the semifinals after the first day at the 2012 Rowing Championships in West Windsor, N.J. California, Ohio State, Princeton, UCLA and Washington also advanced three boats.
