CPIHL Playoff Rules 2010-2011 Season
1. Games will go full time, no reduced time in third period unless the 6 rule is in effect. The 10 goal rule will be in effect, and the mercy rule will be applied during the 3rd period, except on Championship night.
2. Ties at the end of regulation will go to 4 minute 4 on 4 sudden death overtime followed by a 3 minute 3 on 3 sudden death overtime.
3. Penalties do carryover into the sudden death overtime. At no time can a team participate with less than 4 players (traditionally 3 skaters and a goalie). If a carryover penalty or penalty called in sudden death puts a team at less than the minimum the penalized player(s) time will be put on clock and non-offending team will have equivalent number of player(s) added to their on ice amount. At the conclusion of the penalty the player(s) will return to the ice as normal but at the next stoppage of play the on ice count will go back to the reduced amount depending on which sudden death the game is in.
4. Ties at the end of the 3 minute overtime will go to a shootout. Each team will designate shootout participants at the end of the 3 minute sudden death overtime by placing a number 1 through 5 beside shootout participant’s names on the score sheet. Players 1 through 3 will shoot in the order indicated on the score sheet, starting with player 1. If a tie score still exists after the 3rd player from each team has taken part in the shootout, the shootout will continue as a sudden death shootout beginning with the 4th player from each team’s list until one team has outscored the other after each player has had the chance to shoot. If there remains a tie after all 5 shooters have gone from both teams, the order will restart with the same players in order from 1-5 until there is a clear winner. Once shootout starts if any player is unable to take part in the shootout through injury, penalty, or game ejection, all players immediately below will advance one position in the shootout rotation.
5. In the last 10 minutes of a playoff game or in overtime, if a player receives a 10 minute misconduct penalty, the balance of the penalty that remains un-served shall be served in the player's next scheduled playoff game. Also, the player may not participate in a shootout if the entire 10 minute misconduct has not been served.

Notes

1. From the rules minor penalties with time remaining do not exclude a player from participating in shoot outs.
2. Examples of rule 3
